Was Hillary Clinton's State Department 'For Sale' On Iranian Sanctions When She Was Secretary Of State?

Washington Times: Bill Clinton’s foundation cashed in as Sweden lobbied Hillary on sanctions

Bill Clinton’s foundation set up a fundraising arm in Sweden that collected $26 million in donations at the same time that country was lobbying Hillary Rodham Clinton’s State Department to forgo sanctions that threatened its thriving business with Iran, according to interviews and documents obtained by The Washington Times.

The Swedish entity, called the William J. Clinton Foundation Insamlingsstiftelse, was never disclosed to or cleared by State Department ethics officials, even though one of its largest sources of donations was a Swedish government-sanctioned lottery.

As the money flowed to the foundation from Sweden, Mrs. Clinton’s team in Washington declined to blacklist any Swedish firms despite warnings from career officials at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm that Sweden was growing its economic ties with Iran and potentially undercutting Western efforts to end Tehran’s rogue nuclear program, diplomatic cables show.

WNU Editor: And people in the press are wondering why she does not want to answer questions .... Hillary's speech 'will be her interview' (Politico). Still no comment from the White House. What's my take .... the stories continue to add up, but the Justice Department is more interested in FIFA.

As a swede i think the mist embarasing about the whole incident is that we sponsor Hillary with money for her coming presidential campaign

Sweden and its government have a choice as to whether they want to put up with her or sponsor her or not. We in America have no choice in this regard. At least not at this time. If there's a silver lining to this, I'd say her chances at becoming the next president are virtually zero and her chances of actually getting her party's nomination are quite small especially with everything that is continuing to pile up against her but the Clintons never seem to go away so I would not count her out just yet.

I suspect with regards to sanctions on Iran Sweden along with most Western European nations would like to see the sanctions lifted or at worst have them continue in the current weak and ineffective format that they are in now. After all, America would bear the brunt of an Iranian nuclear attack or other military attack not them and if America their strategic competitor gets hurt they'd view this as good for them.

As for the Clinton's, they get to make a little money off of the grave damage being done to America's national security. It seems they are either to blinded by a combination of greed and ideology to think straight or they've got a way worked out to sever ties with America should this situation turn as bad as it could. Perhaps it is combination of both.

It's interesting that you mention the FIFA situation. It's puzzling why the US would even want to be involved in this. Soccer is not a particularly popular sport in the US. As such, there never was and never would be any possibility of the US actually hosting this as it would not be profitable to do so. Additionally Russia currently has the 2018 games as I understand it. If Russia loses these games as a result of this, this would cause even more tension between Russia and America. Also, if the investigation is seen as being led by America the officials in question would seem almost certain to be cleared even if they really are guilty. In summary with no upside and only downside to be involved in FIFA investigations, to do so would seem strategically stupid.

A good place to start to rectify this would be for the US to extricate itself from this by any means possible. Since it seems other nations are involved in the investigations, this may not be possible.

Whether America or the Justice Department participates in the investigations or not American leaders should make it clear that America supports Russia's bid to host the games in 2018 and America will resist any effort with all its strength to prevent Russia from loosing these games and will fight to secure Russia position in this area. While perhaps a small things, small things can go along way toward strengthening relationships. Such a move might help to repair Russian American relations.

While the American government is worrying about FIFA, Iran continues to skirt sanctions and laugh at them. Essentially Iran is an existential threat to America that continues to grow stronger. If America is to survive let alone thrive, the American government simply must rearrange its priorities. As for the American people, most of them are simply to busy trying to eke out a meager living to be able to give it the necessary attention.
