Where Are The Iranian Nuclear Talks Right Now

NBC: Analysis: Iran Nuclear Talks — Where Things Stand

TEHRAN — After years of marathon negotiations and several missed deadlines, crunch time has finally arrived for Iran's nuclear talks with the United States and five other world powers.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met Sunday in Vienna with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, their third encounter since Saturday.

As gaps remained between all sides in the talks, Zarif planned to return to Tehran for 24 hours for consultations with Iran's leadership ahead of the June 30 deadline for a deal.

An enormous amount of ground already has been covered between Tehran and Washington, old foes who once referred to each other as "The Great Satan" and a member of "The Axis of Evil," respectively.

WNU Editor: NBC is trying to spin the positive in these nuclear talks .... sighhh .... what I find amazing about these "news analysis" is that I have been hearing the same thing from these same news networks for years. Bottom line .... the men who run Iran starting with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei have shown little if any interest in curtailing their nuclear program and have made their positions abundantly clear for years, and as long as they are the ones in charge nothing is going to change. As for the current phase of talks .... I still expect some form of understanding coming out from it .... and it will be hailed as a great accomplishment for the Obama administration. But on a substantive level .... it will be lacking on an inspections regime, and a total lack of willingness from Iran Revolutionary Guards and the Iranian military to cooperate with international organizations.

Update: Why am I not surprised .... Nuke talks to miss target; Iran foreign minister heads home (AP).

The nuclear talks are,
but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

We knew this 2 or 3 months ago when the deadline was extended for the umpteenth time.

Every timer the talks have been extended we know that there will be no resolution except perhaps for a bad deal.

It would be easier on Kerry, Obama & the rest of us, if they just phone it in and stay on the gulf course or at a mansion instead of periodically putting on a show.

Aizino,
Like I've said before I've got a feeling the participants don't really care if there is a culmination to these talks...well it looks like I gotta go for a minute, I see a little tornado has touched down across the field from me and is acting like it want to come this way. We need the rain but these things are getting a little pesky, be back in a minute.

Their talks are getting in the way of action, be it sanctions, air strikes, war or whatever is necessary.

Not that I am for war, but a well prosecuted war is better than a bad peace. A bad peace is window dressing for undeclared war or other aggression.

Kerry was 'hired' to do a job. That job was not for the state department to say it will take this and then do nothing. Do nothing is a choice. It is the default option. The default option is not a priori the best option or a good option.

As far as sanction are concerned, i kind of believe make it as hermetical as possible or flood the zone and do not have sanctions. Overwhelm them with contacts.
