Daily Mail: How ISIS relies on Edward Snowden's leaks to outsmart Western intelligence: Militants now use encrypted channels and couriers to avoid detection

* US military and intelligence officials say ISIS commanders learned spycraft tips from leaked classified files
* Western analysts are having trouble cracking militants' encrypted channels

ISIS militants have picked up a few vital spycraft techniques from a trove of classified documents leaked by Edward Snowden that are helping them stay one step ahead of Western intelligence, according to US officials.

The New York Times reported that the tech-savvy extremist group that has cut a bloody swath across the Middle East has gleaned important information from the Snowden files on how the US and its allies gather intelligence on militants.

In order to minimize the risk of detection and capture, ISIS commanders now use human couriers or encrypted channels of communications that analysts working for Western intelligence services have been unable to access, unnamed military and intelligence officials revealed to the paper.

WNU Editor: I am sure that the Islamic State has gained some insight on how to thwart Western intelligence agencies from Edward Snwoden's NSA leaks, but a part of me wonders if the reason why they are blaming Edward Snowden is to cover their own failures in penetrating and gathering information on the Islamic State .... i.e. "covering their own asses" .... while requesting more money and resources.

You're on to something there. How could ISIS not learn what they need to, with the way these people have been blabbing about technical and methodological means for years. They would have to be complete nincompoops not to learn.
