Islamic State And Other Extremist Groups Are Enslaving, Killing And Uprooting Christians Throughout The Middle East

Eliza Griswold, New York Times: Is This the End of Christianity in the Middle East?

ISIS and other extremist movements across the region are enslaving, killing and uprooting Christians, with no aid in sight.

There was something about Diyaa that his wife’s brothers didn’t like. He was a tyrant, they said, who, after 14 years of marriage, wouldn’t let their sister, Rana, 31, have her own mobile phone. He isolated her from friends and family, guarding her jealously. Although Diyaa and Rana were both from Qaraqosh, the largest Christian city in Iraq, they didn’t know each other before their families arranged their marriage. It hadn’t gone especially well. Rana was childless, and according to the brothers, Diyaa was cheap. The house he rented was dilapidated, not fit for their sister to live in.

Qaraqosh is on the Nineveh Plain, a 1,500-square-mile plot of contested land that lies between Iraq’s Kurdish north and its Arab south. Until last summer, this was a flourishing city of 50,000, in Iraq’s breadbasket. Wheat fields and chicken and cattle farms surrounded a town filled with coffee shops, bars, barbers, gyms and other trappings of modern life.

WNU Editor: Since the start of this genocide, I can't recall a single time the Obama administration has said a word on behalf of these Christians. But the White House is not alone .... the media has been largely AWOL, and Muslim leaders throughout the world have been largely silent.

Except for Hezbollah's Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, and Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, both of whom repeatedly called it a Muslim religious duty to protect Christians from ISIS takfiris. Funny how you don't mention that. Nor do you mention how Iranian forces and Hezbollah forces are fighting and dying to protect Christian, Alawite, Hazidi and Sunni communities in Syria.

Funny how it's the Israel-aligned West that ignores Shiites dying to protect Christians and others. Funny how it's the Israel-aligned West and Israel-aligned Gulf monarchies that are trying to destroying the only forces fighting ISIS on the ground - the SAA, Hezbollh and Iranian troops.

Don't you think that's odd?

Hezbollah's and Iran's current relationship with Christians is one of convenience .... http://www.christianpost.com/news/they-accept-us-as-we-are-christians-join-forces-with-muslim-group-hezbollah-to-fight-isis-in-lebanon-138975/ .... take that away and we will be back to how Hezbollah and Iran treated Christians before the current conflict .... discriminatory and hostile.

I am growing tired of your propagandistic attacks on Obama. I thought this site had more integrity. But it seems you reserve nuance for your analysis of the Ukraine conflict.

He is not attacking Obama, he is just ahead of the curve

Black Knight .... I am critical of the Washington foreign policy (from both parties) AND President Obama .... not necessarily President Obama. Thank you for the links to what the White House has said .... but you are just making my point .... this is all that they have done and said when one considers the incredible suffering and slaughter that has and is occurring right now .... the Michael Brown shooting got more of a response from the White House than what is happening right now in the Middle East.

Anon .... thanks .... but I was typing my response when you responded.

However WNU editor, you said in your comment "I can't recall a single time the Obama administration has said a word on behalf of these Christians."

Yet, the Obama administration has commented, on multiple occasions (as Black Knight pointed out).

Perhaps you should have changed your comment to "the Obama administration response has been limited".

Semantics, sure, but in the world of political correctness, words matter.
