Depraved jihadis fighting for the Islamic State have forced a young child to savagely behead a Syrian regime army officer in the first execution of its kind.

The sickening murder is understood to have taken at the Western Hir Palace in the province of Homs after the soldier was captured by jihadis at the nearby Al-Bosayri army checkpoint.

The unnamed officer is believed to have been a regime leader in the ancient city of Palmyra, which ISIS captured in May and have since set about about systematically destroying as they believe the city's several millennia-old buildings and monuments distract from the worship of God.

Update: Isis video shows young boy beheading Syrian soldier near ancient city of Palmyra (The Independent).

WNU Editor: The depravity of this conflict now knows no bounds.

A soldier is killed (executed gruesomely) by a child, a child is killed by a soldier/sniper because he was "in the way" of the sniper's shot at the target, a woman.

The depravity of this conflict knows no bounds congruent therefore with the depravity of conflict generally.

Horrible. It occurred to me that ISIS might compare to the Mongolian horde. A highly mobile force using technology and resources in a new way. They have no real home so they blast accross the region, living on whatever they can steal. They have no infrastructure to maintain, no allegiances, nothing to tie them down. They use what they have till it's gone and then steal more to replace it, growing ever larger, faster, and more powerful as they swallow and incorporate what resources lie in their path, destroying anything that obstructs them, leaving destruction in their wake. How do you stop something like that which essentially had nothing to lose and everything to gain?

I'd say it does know bounds. Those bounds are constantly expanding, since the old stuff doesn't shock people as much anymore. They have to keep raising the stakes.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but what does anyone expect from these people. If you listen to what they say and have been watching what they have done, how can anyone be surprised? These people believe in what they say and do.
To defeat them is going to take some very unpleasant old school methods. Fix them in place and kill every living thing there. In a sense the Pacific island campaign the Marines did in WWII would be a good example of how to go after ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Isolate, fix, and completely destroy them city by city town by town.

How do you isolate people who can drop their guns and pretend like they are shepherds? It would take a lot of boots on the ground to check everybody for powder residue or rape and the blood of innocents on their hands.

Ropestuff, you don't, that's what I meant by unpleasant business. They have their cities, isolate them, fix them, and destroy them (and consequently all the poor innocent souls trapped with them, God help them), it's probably going to come to that. I won't waste everyone's time going over why I think prior/current policy has brought things to this point, but suffice to say I believe that it has and millions of innocents will die for it.

i agree James, that's probably what would be needed to defeat them. but i see ISIS sticking around for the foreseeable future. there's just nobody willing to do what's needed (or much of anything at all) to stop them.

I pray for things to work out in that region but I have so little faith in lasting peace there that I am assuming the firestorm is innevitable. Somebody will go too far someday and it will all blow up. I hope not, but I think old school conventional tactics will just be the start of what eventually brings lasting peace to the region, conflagration.

Bob Huntley said...

Ropestuff it had better start soon or there will be ISIS cells all over the world although I imagine in that respect it is already too late. That is the tactic they used to take cities, infiltrate peacefully and be ready to move when the outside attack comes, and will continue to be successful.

I can't pray for the conflagration, I have to hold out for a better solution, but I hope something happens soon. If it's true that they are a modern Mogol Horde, we can always hope their demise will be the same, infighting,

I think we can agree something rather brutal has to be done. And liberal governments wouldn't be up to it because they like to TALK and use HARSH words.

I'm mean look at that boys thousand yard stare. He has no soul or humanity. Cancer spreads, multiples, and kills but it can also be exterminated.....brave men are needed not politicians.

Phill,
You've probably seen me say it before, but once more, there are no "child" soldiers. Once they step over the line they are not children anymore, nor can they revert back to their "child" state. Strange to say that in the "West" the cult of "children" has grown with helicopter parents, self esteem trophies, safe rooms for traumatized college students, trigger warnings, and CPS agents everywhere, while to the east they butcher people with small knives and call it the Lord's work.
