Navy Times: Sources: Navy officer, Marine fought to take out Chattanooga gunman
A Navy officer and a Marine fired their sidearms hoping to kill or subdue the gunman who murdered five service members last week in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to multiple military officials familiar with internal reporting on the tragedy.
It remains unclear whether either hit Muhammad Abdulazeez, who was shot and killed on July 16 after he gunned down four Marines and a sailor at the Navy Operational Support Center in Chattanooga. It's also unclear why they were armed, as it is against Defense Department policy for anyone other than military police or law enforcement to carry weapons on federal property.

WNU Editor: If this report is true .... one has to wonder if the Pentagon will be charging these men for breaking regulations on having sidearms.

Does the Pentagon not look like a fortress?
A medieval visitor who came to see it via time machine might think so.
About the only thing that could pierce its' defense are an airliner or a nuke.
Point is those freaking generals and admirals are freaking safe.
If there is an adsep or a court martial it should be the fracking flag ranks.
Surely the Pentagon is not stupid enough to actually charge these men if this is true. Then again the current US government can be VERY stupid at times. As such, I would not put pas them such a move. If it does come to that, I'd sure hate to be the officer in charge of prosecuting.
There are basically two ways around this for the Pentagon. 1.)"If this report is true" are the operative words here. The Pentagon along with the US government simply issues statements saying the report is not true and make it clear through back channels to the media that any further reporting on this by the media to the effect that it is true will be met with SEVERE punishment to the personnel and news agencies who continue reporting this. In turn, follow this up with a "wink, wink, nod, nod" to the officers who bravely acted to defend their fellow warriors and quietly drop all charges. This gives the Pentagon a chance to change a stupid policy without having to publically admit the previous policy in place was stupid. 2.) Publically and loudly praise the officers who undertook this option and announce the policy regarding soldiers not being allowed to carry weapons is being changed effective immediately.
Military personnel should be able to carry weapons in the same situations that law enforcement personnel are allowed to do so. In other words, supposed gun free zones do not apply to law enforcement and they should not apply to any military person either.
Jury nullification.
