L.A. Times: U.S.-backed offensive in Iraq gets off to a disappointing start
A U.S.-backed military offensive against Islamic State fighters faltered in its first week as several hundred militants entrenched in the provincial capital of Ramadi withstood punishing airstrikes and held off a far-larger force of Iraqi ground troops, senior U.S. and coalition commanders said Saturday.
The slow going in what officials portray as a major test of efforts to bring Iraq's fractured security forces into a common front against the Sunni Muslim extremists comes as a truck bomb late Friday killed more than 100 people, including women and children, in a mostly Shiite Muslim market town about 35 miles north of Baghdad.
WMU Editor: Amongst great fanfare last week of a new Iraqi offensive to retake Ramadi (see above video) .... we are now reading reports that they have failed. We should not be surprised .... the Iraqis are relying on infantry and small arms to push their offensive in Anbar province, instead of being more dependent on using combined operations with coordinated U.S. air support.

I just heard about it on the 19th. Now on the 20th I hear it is faltering.
The blissful news readers, who are beautiful people, related how this time it was going to go right, because they were surrounding Ar Ramadi and being methodical.
