A Look At the Weapons That North Korea Will Use If War Breaks Out

(KCNA/Reuters)

Harry J. Kazianis, National Interest: Revealed: North Korea's 5 Most Lethal Weapons of War

Tensions are certainly rising in Asia--especially on the Korean peninsula--and the world is watching to see what could happen next.

North Korea, for lack of a better term, is one hell of a hot mess. And its one that if South Korea and its ally the United States ever had to go to war with would create all sorts of problems.

From a leader who has more in common with the fictional Dr. Evil than any other normal head of state to rants about going to war against the United States and South Korea on an almost weekly basis to much more serious and deadly temper tantrums (like attacking a South Korean naval vessel and opening up its artillery to shell islands), one never knows what Pyongyang is capable of—just look how it treats it own people.

WNU Editor: If a full scale war should break out on the Korean peninsula .... the casualty rates and the destruction that it would bring would make the current wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan pale in comparison. And for U.S. casualties .... it is not hard to visualize more U.S. personnel being killed in the first month than all of the U.S. casualties in the Iraq and Afghan wars combined. Unfortunately .... while I am sure that no one in South Korea or Washington want war .... war sometimes wants you, and in that event (especially in a place like the Korean peninsula) there is nothing that you can do to stop it.

According to my understanding of Kim Yong Un, he has been raised as palace-kid without any boundaries ... a sure-fire guarantee for a flamboyant character.
But I do not think he is mentally retarded; thus he´d be quite aware of how a war against the US and the South would turn out - when neither China nor Russia would keep his "workers-paradise" afloat.

I guess he wants a way out of this affair without losing face, even if it costs some lives within his military or population - as this could reaffirm the internal (and regime-legitimizig) myth of the threat by the "american imperialism".
One could even speculate that "he" knows that deaths within his population caused by actions from the South are much more helpful to his cause of regime-perpetuation, than killing southerners would be at this point.

Nothing will prepare the South for North's most deadliest weapon... The Notebook! *Shudder*

The # of casualties of which makes political assassination look sane and moral IMHO.

I think it is immoral to go through every private and work your way up to get the cabal running things.

I think you are right Aizino. If a team could make a guaranteed hit on the Fat One and the 1 or 2 people who like him, the rest might crumble. I'd want to see that happen before a full scale campaign involving the deaths of foreign troops and all the North Korean prisoner/hostage/ soldiers.
