Allen West: Navy To Prosecute Chattanooga Hero
'What kind of freaking idiots are in charge of our Armed Forces?'
According to former congressman and retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West, the U.S. Navy has decided to bring charges against the naval officer who fired his personal weapon at Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez during the ISIS supporter’s July 16 attack on the Chattanooga U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center.
Abdulazeez, armed with a handgun and an assault rifle, killed four Marines and one sailor.
In the posting on his website Saturday, West wrote:
“Ladies and gents, resulting from the text message I received yesterday, I can confirm that the United States Navy is bringing charges against Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White for illegally discharging a firearm on federal property.
Update: Allen West: U.S. Navy Chattanooga Shooting Survivor Timothy White To Be Arrested Over Gun Control Laws -- Inquisitr
WNU Editor: No jury is ever going to convict this hero. Unfortunately .... military justice is different, and the last thing that this family needs is this case going forward. On a more positive note .... even the Pentagon is now realizing that there should be a change in policy .... Ashton Carter orders gun policy reviews at military bases after Tennessee shootings (Washington Times).

Fuckers!
The brass will rationalize that if they let LCDR white "get away with it", then other troops will do the same. That is a valid point.
First, most other troops are on large installation and so have base security starting at the gate.
Second, the _|_|_ _|_|_|_|_|_|_ had 6 years to come up with an effective deterrent after the shooting at the recruiting station at Arkansas.

They did nothing effective.
It is the same MO and the same suspects. Name is Mohammed. Religion is Islam. They despised America.
Yet, the Left of center media and politicians act all confused as to motive.
Personally, I don't like working with people named Jihad or Mohammed who have bad attitudes.
Yes, I had a coworker named Jihad and he had a nasty attitude.
"Due to the Chattanooga shooting, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the Pentagon is considering allowing military personnel like Timothy White to use guns to protect themselves."

The Little Rock shooting was considered a one-off by the wizards of smart?
Generals are FINALLY telling this war will last 20 or 30 years. So won't some of the tactics or targets?
A military that is supposed to defend the country but won't allow a soldier to defend himself and his buddies. If he gets charged, even if found innocent, what will that do to the already low morale in the military?
Generals feel pretty secure.
So far the hit on the Pentagon by a airliner was a one off. General Dozier was long ago.
The generals do not feel it the way the average grunt does.
...and is also that kind of person that makes people fear the government. Nothing like an irrational enforcer of dumb ass laws to make a person feel the government is unjust.
"No jury is ever going to convict this hero." I'm not sure this is true. There are large pockets of people in every community in every part of America who are anti-gun and anti-military. As such, for a prosecutor wishing to do so, it would quite easy for them to find the 12 people who would gladly convict. Now do they want to deal with the political backlash that would come with such a decision is another matter. I suspect most would not. As such, the person or people who thought prosecuting this case would be a good idea are idiots as has been suggested, they are ideologically blind, or they live in a bubble so detached from reality they have no idea of anything. Actually such a situation would tend to make one dumb so it is correct that these people are idiots.
As has been suggested this is a stupid rule that never should have been in place in the first place. I read the article on the reviews being initiated by Sec of Defense Carter. Unfortunately the tone of this article leads me to believe that any changes we can get on this would only be at the margins and would not make any real difference but it is a start that someone finally realizes there is a problem.
The proper solution would be to treat all military personnel whether reservists or on active duty the same as law enforcement personnel are treated where they are allowed to and even expected to have guns with them at all times. As for this case regarding LCDR White, I'd suggest one of the following. 1.)As I once stated, I'd sure hate to be the officers in charge of prosecuting this case. I still feel that way and I'm sure many other military officers would as well. They could simply refuse to prosecute. Careers might be jeopardized if this approach is taken, but after several officers refuse to prosecute I think the top brass would pay attention. Such principled stances are what is needed and they would likely have the support of the American people and Congress could be shamed into doing what is right here. 2.)The Secretary of Defense and his team could change the rules limiting the carrying of personal weapons by soldiers and make the change in rules retroactive to a date prior to the shootings in Chattanooga, say 7/15/15. This way a stupid rule gest rescinded and certain top brass are allowed to save face. Since the rule is changed prior to the date of the shooting, by not prosecuting they are merely enforcing the rules.
There was a time when I would have much rather been prosecuted under military rules than a civilian jury. At the time, I believed military personnel had greater integrity and honor than the average member of the public. Of the rank and file and the mid level officers such as LCDR White and the men under him I still believe this to be the case. Unfortunately the actions of the top level officers of late have left much to be desired.
To say that even considering prosecution of this man is even further devastating to the morale of an already broken military is an understatement. The depths of depravity in such a decision is hard to fathom especially then there would have been any number of opportunities to make this one go away without getting to this point. In this environment, option 2 suggested above seems to be the best option. This way top brass get the face saving appearance of following the law, a hero gets to avoid trauma as has been pointed out the last thing he or his family and I would add the military in general needs right now is for this to go forward, a bad rule gets rescinded, and we have the opportunity of mitigating the damage to the military.
