WNU Editor: late last night I posted a story asking the question .... Can The U.S. Air Force's F-35 Defeat Russia's New Jet Fighter? Surprise .... surprise .... others are now asking the same question .... The Russian Sukhoi T-50 is going to be a tough adversary for both the F-22 and F-35. (Aviationist).

Pff... Never mind the T-50, some of Russia's earlier generation aircraft are probably well able to deal with the F-35. I smell a dirty 'spin' on this story.
With all due respect a much better and much more realistic question would be as follows: "will America's F-22 and F-35 be a tough adversary for Russia's Sukhoi T-50?" Today's Russia like its predecessor the Soviet Union has the best armed forces on the planet. As such, it is reasonable to assume the Sukhoi T-50 will be/is the best military aircraft of its class.
During Cold War I the US had an economic advantage and a vast nuclear arsenal to help counter the vast conventional superiority Soviet forces had over America. This enabled America to survive Cold War I. So far during Cold War II, the US do to its massive national debt and its dependence upon others for much of the raw materials that make its economy operate as well as its dependence upon others for a number of manufactured goods the US does not have an economic advantage over today's Russia. Furthermore due to the upgrades in the Russian nuclear arsenal and the neglect of this on the part of the US we can no longer say with any degree of confidence that this will be sufficient to deter Russia today as it was during Cold War I.
At this point during Cold War II, Russia holds the vast economic and military advantages over the US at present and due to the huge challenges the US faces it is unlikely that this is going to change at any time in the foreseeable future. Definite changes in strategy by the US are definitely going to be needed if the US wishes to survive let alone thrive.
