Germany Now Expects As Many 1m Migrants To Enter The Country This Year

Financial Times: Germany increases migrant forecast to 1m

Germany now expects as many 1m migrants to enter the country this year, a senior official said on Monday, as some EU countries moved to tighten their borders amid a refugee crisis that has left many struggling to cope.

The figure cited by Sigmar Gabriel, deputy chancellor, contrasted with official forecasts of 800,000 last month and came a day after Berlin imposed emergency border controls to stem the rising numbers of asylum-seekers pouring into the country.

Germany has until now adopted a much more welcoming stance towards migrants from Syria and elsewhere than its EU counterparts. But at an emergency justice and home affairs ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Monday, it will push other countries to take a bigger share of the burden.

WNU Editor: When I first heard German officials comment that 800,000 migrants were going to enter Germany this year .... I laughed. This one million number is also laughable. And I predict that by next month these same German officials will be mentioning numbers like 1.5 million. Realistically .... when you look at the countries where these migrants are coming from .... and the hundreds of millions who live there (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Egyptians, central and northern Africa, etc.) .... Germany is realistically facing 10 to 15 million at its borders by the end of next year if they continue with their present policy of unconditionally admitting migrants.
