Israeli PM Netanyahu And His Military Chiefs Meet Russian President Putin In Moscow To Coordinate Military Action On Syria

CNN: Netanyahu visits Putin amid concerns about Russian involvement in Syria

(CNN)With Russia apparently beefing up its military presence in Syria, some countries are getting nervous about what could happen -- including, perhaps, Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss "the Middle East peace process and the fight against the global terrorist threat," the Kremlin said.

But in a rare move, Netanyahu is bringing several top Israeli military and security officials with him to Moscow.

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, IDF Director of Military Intelligence Maj. Gen. Hertzi HaLevi and National Security Advisor Yossi Cohen will accompany the prime minster, Netanyahu's office said.

WNU Editor With his military chiefs accompanying him to meet Putin, Israeli Prime Minister was very blunt on why the meeting .... Netanyahu Tells Putin: I Came to Moscow to Prevent Misunderstandings Between IDF and Russian Forces in Syria (Haaretz). Russian president Putin's remarks were also revealing .... Putin: Syria does not intend to fight with Israel (TASS). But the real talks probably happened after the meeting .... and it was between the Israeli military chiefs and their counterparts in the Russian military. They do not want any misunderstandings .... hence the need to agree to rules of engagement, red lines, lines of communications. It would not surprise me if .... after this meeting .... U.S. military officials would then be informed on what was agreed upon, and what are the "red lines" that the U.S. must respect.

Update: It looks like Russia and Israel have come to an agreement (as expected) .... Israeli, Russia to coordinate military action on Syria - Netanyahu (Reuters)
