Washington Post: President Obama welcomes Chinese leader in White House ceremony
President Obama said Friday that he and Chinese president Xi Jinping agreed on "a common understanding on the way forward" to combat cyberspace theft of U.S. companies' trade secrets, a major point of friction between the two nations, and said that the two leaders asserted that they would not condone such activities.
Obama said that China had also agreed to further open up access to its economy, not to devalue its currency, establish ways to avoid miscalculations that might lead to unintended collision between the U.S. and Chinese militaries.
But Obama also twice said that the two had had "candid conversations" and while he said they would "help us understand each other better" the American president seemed to suggest that differences remained.
