The Pentagon Wants A 'Flying Aircraft Carrier'

Motley Fool: It's Official: DARPA Will Build a Flying Aircraft Carrier

Initially, they'll start small. "How small?," you ask? Read on and find out.

Ever since Marvel Comics first popularized the idea, the world has been waiting for someone to invent an honest-to-goodness flying aircraft carrier. Now, DARPA says it's going to give it a try.

Baby steps

Not all at once, though. At least, not initially. Late last month, DARPA -- the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency -- announced the launch of its "Gremlins" program. While not quite a true Marvel-icious flying "helicarrier," Gremlins sounds pretty ambitious in its own right.

it is better to build powerful speedy Satellite missile or AI robots instead of wasting money on flying air craft carrier.

Every flying helicopter in the Marvel series crashed and burned as far as I can remember. Terrible waste of comical taxpayer money.

With the development of hyper-sonic Missiles, the new breed of ballistic, AA and cruse missiles, I don't see anything larger than a PT boat surviving on the surface of the ocean let alone something this big flying around in the air.
