U.S. Warns Russia On Their Growing Military Presence In Syria

Reuters: Kerry tells Lavrov of U.S. concern over Russian moves in Syria

Secretary of State John Kerry expressed U.S. concern over reports of Russia's enhanced military build-up in Syria in a telephone call on Saturday with his Russian counterpart, the State Department said.

"The secretary made clear that if such reports were accurate, these actions could further escalate the conflict, lead to greater loss of innocent life, increase refugee flows and risk confrontation with the anti-ISIL coalition operating in Syria," the department said, using an acronym for Islamic State.

It said Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed that discussions on the Syrian conflict would continue this month in New York, where the U.N. General Assembly meets.

WNU Editor: Reports that Russia is building a military base in Syria has clearly spooked the U.S.. This direct involvement of Russia in the Syria civil war changes everything .... and U.S. options on how to respond are limited.

The Russians are, have been and will be there until the situation is sorted out to their liking. It's hard to believe that the Chinese aren't fully in their corner on thus and that some very relevant discussions took place between President Putin and Chairman Xi thus past week.

On an aside, our country's government is set to go to the polls in October. If the Canadian people have any sense at all they'll vote for candidates who are firmly against tangling with the Russians in Syria or anywhere else for that matter. Canada is in no way shape or form capable of backing the rhetoric that has been coming out of Ottawa regarding Russia. As someone who did contract work for the military overseas I can say Canada would probably break a bunch of teeth on the Syrian Arab Army let alone the Russians...US backing notwithstanding.

Obama has just given the ayatollah's 150 billion dollars.

The Iranians are overstretched and overvalued, but still the trade that is coming into Iran has got to make some appreciable difference. So at this time "what difference does it make?"

Obama went into Libya for R2P and Putin did not say Boo! Since then Obama has run things down. So the Chicago Clunker has run our limited our options purposefully.

If for some reason we had another 8 years of Obama, we could lose to Haiti, Tahiti, or Sealand.

The media's reporting of this is interesting:
US Media; Kerry "confronts, warns, presses"
European Media; US fears, is concerned"
Russian Media; somewhat adjective neutral
