Is Russia's Weaponry Overrated?

Basem Shabb, Al Bawaba: Are Russia’s weapons overrated?

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. And so it goes for Russia’s imperial overture in Syria. The shock of Russia’s deploying air power has lifted the morale of the Syrian regime and its allies, proclaiming a new era of Russian dominance.

But their euphoria will be short-lived. A closer examination reveals that the Russian lack of numbers and firepower does not substantiate the grandiose political expectations. The deployment may enhance Russia’s image and increase its leverage in any upcoming political process, but is also far from what is required to reassert the Syrian regime’s influence over all of Syria. Paradoxically as the dust settles the intervention may reveal the limitations of Russian hardware and power.

WNU Editor: U.S. weapons are far more advanced and effective than Russian weapons .... for now. But as in the case of Iraq and Syria .... the U.S. may have the best weapons, but rules of engagement and limitations on what they can do have severely undermined their effectiveness. The Russian military .... not encumbered by lawyers and rules of engagement .... has far more freedom and discretion in their war against the Syrian rebels, and they are making full advantage of that fact. So .... Russian weapons are probably overrated .... but the will to use them is certainly not.

Russian weaponry is more potent by the mere fact that they are willing to use them
Sophistication in this theatre of operations is overated , the syrian military is and was far more sophisticated than the rebels and look at the mess they're in .

Also the russian cruise missiles seem a lot more advanced than the u.s cruise missiles particularly in payload and range.
Smerch is far more advanced than the american mlrs system , tor has many advantages for clise in air defence so is american equipment much more advanced? Probably not but its the pilots and reliability of the western equipment that gives the edge .
