USNI News: Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt Leaves Middle East, No Firm Date on Replacement to Continue Anti-ISIS Strikes

The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group left U.S. 5th Fleet on Tuesday with no public timeline for when its replacement will reach the Middle East to continue U.S. air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq in Syria (ISIS) targets.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is slated to be the next CSG bound for the Middle East, but the Navy would not specify a deployment time other than later this year, a service official told USNI News on Tuesday.

“We’re not going to talk to future operations,” the official said.

WNU Editor: Talk about terrible optics .... this gives the impression that the U.S. is leaving and/or diminishing their role in the region.

I thought the deal was that when one carrier left the Western Pacific another was inbound.

There does not appear to be one.

An LHD is not quite the same thing.

Talk loudly of R2P and other stuff and ...

Maybe they don't want an errant cruise missile to hit a a carrier by accident.

The Ford is behind schedule, for the same reasons as the F-35, so the U.S. is "down" two carriers from the Fleet, so from here on in, there are gaps in the U.S. continual global deployment of carriers.

You can always crossdeck a squadron or cruise missiles.

The latter has been to due to the prolificacy of Clinton's efforts.

I have heard of the former being considered. Carter was not above keeping crews out for longer and longer periods at sea. That was very humane of him.

Under Obama has deployments of 8 months.

Dems like to cut the budget one way and one way only.

For some reason it is easier to get into the Navy than the Army or Air Force.

Further Navy leaders have more problems with which to deal.

Instead of telling new enlisteees that they are government property (jokingly), they should tell them they are slaves and chattel of a feckless nation.

"The Stennis will be deployed for eight months, meaning the original 6 month Western Pacific deployment scheduled for later this fall is now an eight month deployment in the Middle East only a few weeks away. And for a reason the DoD can't explain, except to say it's not specific to Iran, Navy families get screwed over yet again. If it really is not specific to Iran, something is very wrong."
