Business Insider: Here's one surprising reason Russia might not want to pick a fight with US planes over Syria
The skies over Syria are dangerously crowded these days with the US, Russia, and the Assad regime all bombing various actors on vaguely opposite sides of the country's multidimensional conflict.
In both Iraq and Syria, the reality of overlapping aerial operations among countries with little geopolitical fondness toward one another has already led to claims that British aircraft have been authorized to engage Russian aircraft over Iraq if threatened.
The British government denied these reports, but they still underscore the possibility of confrontation between allied and Russian military aircraft.
WNU Editor: I would be surprised if the U.S. and Russia got involved in a shooting war over Syria. It would quickly escalate to other regions and areas of the world, and the possibility of a nuclear exchange would only increase exponentially. As to the claim that the U.S. has an understanding of Russian avionics and aviation capabilities that gives the U.S. air force an advantage .... that was probably the case .... a decade ago. As to today .... would the U.S. really want to test that capability .... I doubt it for the reasons that I have just mentioned.

Russians are overrated dude, always have been and always will be. If they got in a shooting air war in say Syria. The US and NATO would crush the Russian Air Force there within a day. The Russians do not have a lot of options in Syria unlike the US and NATO. I do agree the current US regime would not want to test it but if it came down to it, the US would neutralize the Russian AIr Force, quickly in Syria, IMO.
