Kyiv Post: Experts: Time running out for government to fulfill EuroMaidan goals
The EuroMaidan Revolution was successful in terms of ousting disgraced ex-President Viktor Yanukovych and his cronies, and shifting Ukraine back toward the path of European integration, according to a significant majority of 31 experts polled this month by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation policy center.
However, two years later, the revolution’s other goals have not been achieved, namely eradicating systemic corruption and punishing those guilty of crimes.
These failures could lead to the undoing of the current government, led by President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, because public trust in them is low, Iryna Bekeshkina, director of the Democratic Initiatives, said at a roundtable to discuss the expert poll’s findings in Kyiv on Oct. 20.
WNU Editor: I do not need to read or listen to what Russian television is saying on Ukraine .... Most Ukrainians think country headed in wrong direction on 2nd anniversary of Maidan uprising (RT) .... I know from my own family, friends, and contacts within Ukraine that everything is far worst shape than what it was before the revolution. And as to Kyiv Post saying that 70% believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction .... I would say the number is closer to 90%, with Ukrainian President Poroshenko's support just as bad. The lack of progress in finding a political solution to stop the war in the eastern part of the country has made the situation hopeless in that part of the country, but it is the economic crisis that is driving the rest of the country to despair. Everyone I know is out of work or working for essentially nothing .... and the young want to immigrate out of the country. To say that I feel pessimistic about the future is an understatement .... if the situation is not stabilized or if there is no sense of hope .... expect the worst in the coming year.

The Obama administration is looking for bringing 100.000 sirian refugees to the state . There is no way in hell that they can bring these people without having a good background check .
They will use the welfare system that you and I pay for and they will say that is that's not enough we want more more .
they will raise the kids in our school system for free and they will grow up to hate you.
They will never assimilate the american culture never ....never.
I remember when I was discharged from the military service and I was looking for work and the one who looked up for my was a Ukrainian vodka drinker call Madat he give me work and got me going.. His best friend was a Russian from Saint Petersburg , his name was sham maybe was his nickname very good people I much rather have those Ukrainians or people from the Baltic countries because I know from experience that they will adopt your value's if I could have the power to get in the middle of the fight in eastern Ukrain to stop this nonsense I would unfortunately that is not something I can do .:-(

Try 10,000, and they are refugees, not immigrants.
This is one of the few remaining military themed websites that has not become utterly consumed with #afraid of Syrian Refugees, #cowering in fear, #wetting my pants.
In the 14 years since 9/11, the U.S. has taken in 750,000 Islamic Refugees. None are on any of the Watch Lists, and only 2 have committed "petty" crimes.
Please don't drag all that irrational fear, Islamophobia and racism over here. There are no shortage of formerly same Military sites where you can indulge the hysteria and panic to your hearts content.
It's the daily subject at work. While I have misgivings about immigration in general ( there are certain policies or interests involvrd that ate straight up regressive ) my position is, if you don't want Auslanders in the country, stop supporting the system and policies which make them want to flee their homes. of course, after making said statement I'm looked at lie I just stepped off a flying saucer.

While the politicians and press like to focus on the security issues of migrants .... the real big impact is cultural and economic. As I have said more than once .... we in the West are not sensitive to how incredibly lucky we are to have the system and government that we have .... and we owe it to the citizens before us who worked hard and sacrificed to give it to us. But .... with communications and transportation what it is today .... if given half a chance .... much of the world .... mired in poverty and no hope of a better life .... would not hesitate to rush by the hundreds of millions to the West if they believed that they could stay here. And what always astounds me is that when I meet these migrants (at least those who come to Canada) .... is how wrong their perception of life is right here. They all think it is easy .... but it is not.
My prediction at the beginning of the EU migration crisis was that this was going to be the big issue for governments in the West .... and if they do not consult openly and honestly with their citizens .... the blow-back against these governments will be huge.
I am going to post my own analysis on the migration crisis in the next day or two .... using my own personal experience, and how it is impacted my family and friends.

Are you 100/100 sure that this people is going to learn your language and respect women's rights , are they going to celebrate Christmas or thanksgiving or July of fourth do they are going to learn american history and go to church the identity of a nations survival rest on the foundation of their language borders and culture.

According to news stories on this very website, none of the 10,000 Syrian Refugees headed for the U.S. Are Christians and Obama because of his Mulsim Community Organizer roots is actively persecuting Christians.
I'm Canadian, we are going to try to get 25,000 here by years end.
Given past histories of Canadian Refugees and Immigrants, I really don't care if they embrace the Consumer Holiday of Christmas, or much of the other crap.
Because as Canadians, and our multiculturalism, we never ask them to give up their religion, language or customs,
So because of my multi ethnic and cross religious friendships, I get to celebrate 4 different New Years, Dawlli and 3 other Festivals of Light. two different Easters, Eid, saint Patrick's Day, Canada Day, which is a really big day for Citizenship, Ramadan, Vessack, Bandi Chor Divas, Robbie Butns Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving in October, Rememberance Day, Yom Kippur and Christmas, just to mention a few.
There are a couple festivals every month, and the food is really good, then there are the birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc.
The First Generation ususal has it hard, the Second Generation ususal fits in really well, and by the Third Generation, the kids are ususally embracing both their roots, Canadian and Immigration.

But in all fairness .... you do not need to be a Muslim to feel discriminated in Quebec .... being a non-francophone is more than enough. I should know .... I have experienced it here more than once.
In the whole scheme of things 25,000 Syrian refugees is just a drop in the bucket (Sweden accepts 10,000/week .... until this weekend) .... but in a place like Quebec ... with high unemployment and the emergence of ethnic ghettoes on the island of Montreal (Montreal North, The Parc-Ex area, Lasalle).... that old and ugly French-Quebec nationalism is starting to stir. A nationalist sentiment that I despise deeply.
I do not know where this is going to go .... but I find it very revealing that the Liberal MPs who were elected in Quebec's rural regions and who gave the Liberals their majority have made themselves scarce on this issue .... and French Quebeckers are noticing. My prediction .... to placate their French Quebec MPs who are now becoming more and more worried when they face their constituents (not the English MPs on the island of Montreal whose support comes from the immigrant communities), the Liberal government is not going to admit any-more Syrian refugees above the existing quotas .... even after the UN conference on Syrian refugees in March. It is a hot potato for them right now .... and even though they won the election only a few weeks ago .... this is an issue that has the potential of sticking around in Quebec for a long time, and for the Liberals who are sensitive about these things .... and who have been out of power for 10 years because of someone like Harper .... this is an experience that they will not want to go through again.
On a personal note. My girlfriends daughter goes to a high-school in the Glengarry district north of Cornwall. 6,000 Syrians are going to be placed in Cornwall in the next few weeks, and all the high-schools have already been notified to get ready to accept a large number of Syrian children for schooling .... even though many of them do not speak English and have not been educated for years. If this occurs the impact on the quality of education that my girl-friend's daughter receives is going to be serious .... the teachers will need to be focused on meeting the needs of these children who will for all intents and purposes be lost. I tell my GF that most of these children and their families will be processed and put elsewhere .... but no one knows for sure, there has been no consultation or a heads-up from the government on this .... just a notification to the school-board, and no follow-up from the ministry. This is naturally making everyone upset .... the not knowing on what will happen and how it will impact their children's education.

It's perception. In the US, Immigrants and Refugees are supposed to assimilate, ( yup, just like the Borg),
In Canada, the first generation is only expected to learn functional English, ( or French), just enough to make change or ask directions.
We have many in my mid sized city too. My son is buddies with a Syrian kid a school. A friend of mine is from over there too. He's a christian who came over years before the civil war started. As a matter of fact, he explained that many of the ex pats were considering returning to Syria before this mess broke out.
Many Syrian immigrants are pro government and despise the Islamists. Those who were pro "rebel" help rallies downtown denouncing the Assad government. These rallies were attended by local MPs and Muslim clerics. There exists a deep rift in the Syrian/ local Arab community over the war. I've personally heard some of their arguments. It's something else and I have kicked myself for not learning Arabic. It is a beautiful language and no translation can give you the nuances that make a conversation spicy. I also find Syrians by and large to be very well educated and politically sophisticated; much more so than so called "old stock" Canadians who tend to be quite thick.
Funny thing is today we hear barely a peep out of the anti Assad crowd. My buddies say that is because they've come to realize that life with Assad was much better for their folks in Syria than it is under Wahhibi nut jobs often imported from foreign countries. They have relatives in the SAA and have explained to me that,in some cases, the army/gov. simply got sick of some Sunni communities raising hell and pulled out allowing al Nusra, IS and others to come in. In most cases, said Sunnis end up hollering for the army to come back and save them from the crazies.
As for the terrorist "threat" over here,
It is no secret that Muslim Brotherhood types and other hard core Islamists were here long before anyone heard of IS. The Syrian and other communities are well aware of their presence. If you were from my city, you would be surprised by the prominent personages with ties to such groups. This is one of the reasons I have problems with Canadian immigration policy.
Past that, just where was the dude who rolled up on Parliament Hill with a 30.30 from? Or how about the non Muslim, Christian home schooled, cop killing Rambo impersonator nut bar from New Brunswick, Justin Borque? Should we now put the hammer down on Christians as well?
I do worry about the motives of the Canadian Government, the backlash from the very vocal ball cap, Duck Dynasty, Helly Hanson crowd who get their political leadership from sources no less qualified than Coach's Corner or Duck Dynasty, the regressive element among the refugees that will get in. I am, however, much more concerned about the threat posed to Canadian security by neo-liberal radicals who sign the country up to trade agreements that undermine the peoples' sovereignty and enshrine slavery. They would be on a watch list in my Canada and the laws regarding treason and what constitues national security would be much, much more geared toward their activities.
As I said at the beginning .... who cares about immigration. :)

that works out to $50,000 for one or $200,000 for a family for four. I feel cheated. I was working at ICAO (UN's aviation organization) in Montreal when I went through the entire process of becoming a Canadian citizen, and I got no special dispensation. I want my cut!!!! Not much .... I'll take half ($25,000) .... and I am not greedy .... I will take it as a deduction on my taxes and I will be happy.
But seriously .... $200,000 for a family of four? I would love to know the breakdown on how calculated that.
Jay .... it is not paranoia, rumour, or fear. But knowledge based on experience.
Montreal's French Quebec community is now below 50% .... the first time ever it is a minority in Montreal. The reason why is because of education .... French Quebecers do not want their children being in a school system that has a huge immigrant population .... they know that it will impact their children's education .... and so they are moving off the island .... by the tens of thousands just over the past few years. My business partner moved three years ago off the island of Montreal to Ste. Therese so his daughter can be in a high school not dominated by immigrant children.
Maybe where you live is different .... but here .... it is a huge issue because people are experiencing it everyday. The issue is not a few hundred immigrant children in a school system .... but on the island of Montreal it is an educational system that is being overwhelmed and fundamentally transformed. A lot of people who live in the Cornwall/Glengarry region are French Quebecers who moved away from Montreal/Quebec so that their children can get a bilingual and a fully rounded education .... my girlfriend included. To now see the same policies and agenda that exists in Montreal being imposed on them .... even with assurances that this is only temporary and these migrants will be placed somewhere else .... Jay .... no one believes the government any-more.
As I have mentioned in the past, I am working with Paul Martin's son to improve educational resources via through the web for native children, and to improve the educational system in Montreal. Both are a huge challenge, but the Montreal educational crisis is becoming the most disturbing. Immigrant children are dropping out of high school in droves (over 70% in the French school system ... and that is the positive number .... I believe it is more closer to 90%). The parents .... God bless them ... these immigrants are working hard and are trying their best to adopt the Canadian way of life .... but when it comes to their children .... something is going wrong. This is also now impacting the criminal justice system .... and like France where 70% of the prison population is Muslim, the same trends are now happening in Montreal. And youth unemployment of immigrant parents .... OMG .... they say it is about 20% .... but in reality it is +50%, and those who are working are at low wages or menial/temporary work. These are long term challenges .... but what concerns me is that I do not see any easy solutions .... and I certainly do not want to see Montreal transformed like how Paris is today.

Again, refugees and immigrants are not the same thing.
Unlike the rest of Canada, Quebec has control over who they take in as immigrants, and who they keep out. The nationalist bias towards Francophones, means that Quebec takes in culturally, educationally "different" immigrants than the rest of Canada,
And as a result is having a "different" immigrant experience, of their own making.
Quebec is only taking in 3,650 Syrian Refugees in total,men, women and children,
So that 6,000 children number being floated around is just hysteria.
I 100% agree Jay. Refugees and immigrants are not the same thing. Unfortunately it is getting lost in the debate.
I think you misunderstood the 6,000 number .... or I did not make myself clear. The 6,000 is the total number for Cornwall .... not 6,000 children. Trois Rivieres is also receiving 6,000 of which yes .... 3,650 are slated for Quebec .... but I suspect that most will stay in Quebec because of Montreal's large Arab population. Just as I am sure that those who are being processed in Cornwall will also end up in Montreal.
I have also been told by a friend of mine who runs a store-front mosque in Pointe St.-Charles (a suburb of Montreal) that they are prioritizing those who speak French (Syria was once a French colony/protectorate). That way .... their assimilation in Quebec culture will not be that difficult.
Now this is getting me mad. The English school board on the island of Montreal has made a request that they have positions available in the school system to easily take in a few hundred Syrian children. A smart move .... I know personally that these schools are excellent, and the student - teacher ratio is the envy of most school systems in Canada. Unfortunately .... their request has been refused, all of these kids will be put into the French system .... which is overcrowded, and unable to accommodate with any large influx of children. More to the point .... drop-out rate in the French system .... 70%. Drop-out rate in the English system .... around 5% - 7%. Sighh .... Jay .... this is how screwed-up the language debate has been (and continues to be) in Quebec.

It's 3,650 Syrian refugees fro the entire Province of Quebec, not Quebec City.
We've seen "proposals" floated about how they are going to bring them in, process them and temporarily house them,
But no "plans" yet. Tuesday, we get a look at the preliminary "plan".
And Yup, Quebec's Immigration problems are of Quebec's own making, and if left to their own devices, they are probably going to muck up "their" Syrian Refugees.
Luckily, a lot of the Refugees will be taken care of through the PSS system, so the Province of Quebec will have little say in their lives.
