Europe's Migration Crisis Is About To Get Worse

New York Times: A Mass Migration Crisis, and It May Yet Get Worse

SID, Serbia — They arrived in an unceasing stream, 10,000 a day at the height, as many as a million migrants heading for Europe this year, pushing infants in strollers and elderly parents in wheelchairs, carrying children on their shoulders and life savings in their socks. They came in search of a new life, but in many ways they were the heralds of a new age.

There are more displaced people and refugees now than at any other time in recorded history — 60 million in all — and they are on the march in numbers not seen since World War II. They are coming not just from Syria, but from an array of countries and regions, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, even Haiti, as well as any of a dozen or so nations in sub-Saharan and North Africa. They are unofficial ambassadors of failed states, unending wars, intractable conflicts.

The most striking thing about the current migration crisis, however, is how much bigger it could still get.

WNU Editor: You gotta love the New York Times headline when it says .... "It May Get Worse" .... who are they kidding. This illustrates the problem (and naivety of the West) .... we are so incredibly rich that we have no appreciation or sensitivity on how poor and difficult life is for much of the world. That if given the chance .... there would be a 100 million migrants pouring into Europe right now .... and doing so with the hope that they would have a better life .... which when one looks at where they are coming from, it is not hard to see why. And while I am sure that Europe can accept millions of these people, the cost and impact will be profound. Europeans have grown accustom to their social safety nets and guaranteed services from their governments. But if current levels of migrants continue to pour in, demanding healthcare, housing, education, welfare .... it is not hard to see that a breaking point will soon be reached that will bust the system. Are Europeans willing to accept this huge sacrifice .... for the moment many are saying yes .... but human nature being what it , I predict that by next year when these migrant levels are 5 to 10 times larger than what they are today .... people are going to be angry. My fear is that the nationalists in some of these countries will exploit the crisis ... .and while support for these political parties are still small .... it is growing.

Update: The German government is still not getting it .... Crunch talks for Merkel on refugee crisis as thousands more arrive (Reuters). Instead of coming out and saying no more .... they want to speed up the process that will only guarantee a greater influx and migration of refugees from all around the world.

I flew into Frankfurt ages ago. It was depressing.

It was built up as far as the eye could see. You would see a town then a wooded hill followed by another town.

I am surprised Germany does not have to import 100% of their food.

Germany would be better off if Putin ran it. At least he would encourage people to have babies and provide a modest if inadequate sum when they had a child. He would not be importing people.

That is giving the voters a fait accompli and so diluting their vote that it does not matter how angry they are.

Those types of politicians need a "French Revolution".

"and doing so with the hope that they would have a better life" and in doing so will destroy the over tapped utopia.
