The Hill: Bush: Trump plan ‘playing Monopoly’ in Syria
Donald Trump’s game plan for Syria is detached from reality, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said during Tuesday evening’s Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee.
“That’s like playing a board game,” Bush said in comments that appeared to get the better of the real estate mogul.
“That’s like playing Monopoly. That’s now how the real world works,” Bush said.
Trump has repeatedly said that the U.S. should stand aside and let Russia get bogged down the years-old Syrian civil war. The Kremlin is interested in both propping up Bashar Assad and, Moscow claims, dismantling the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“If [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wants to go and knock the heck out of ISIS,” Trump said, he should go ahead.
“They’re not doing it,” Bush retorted.
WNU Editor: To hear a Bush criticizing another candidate's Middle East policy/strategy makes me automatically roll my eyes. This issue (among many) is a no-winner for Jeb Bush .... which probably explains why his run for the nomination is now all but dead, and that some in the Republican establishment are now pushing to nominate former Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney .... Time for GOP panic? Establishment worried Carson or Trump might win (Washington Post). As to what's next , the race on the Republican side is definitely getting more interesting .... Republicans Are Ready to Rumble (Wall Street Journal).
Update: Someone just asked me on what is opinion on Donald Trump's remarks that the U.S. should stay aside and let Russia do what it is doing in Syria .... in the current situation I would have to say that Trump is right. The Syrian conflict is not our fight .... and as for the war against the Islamic State .... this is a conflict that the governments in the region must act together to defeat .... unfortunately .... even on this issue their willingness to commit resources and to work together is sorely lacking.
