Bloomberg: China Announces Military Overhaul to Make Army More Combat Ready
* Moves better prepare country to project force beyond borders
* Biggest overhaul of Chinese armed forces in six decades
President Xi Jinping announced a major overhaul of China’s military to make the world’s largest army more combat ready and better equipped to project force beyond the country’s borders.
Under the reorganization, all branches of the armed forces would come under a joint military command, Xi told a meeting of military officials in Beijing, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Bloomberg in September reported details of the plan, which may also seek to consolidate the country’s seven military regions to as few as four.
The Chinese president said the reform aimed to "build an elite combat force" and called on the officials to make "breakthroughs" on establishing the joint command by 2020, Xinhua said. Xi announced the changes at the end of a three-day meeting attended by about 200 top military officials, Xinhua said.

WNU,
I think it's part of Xi's campaign to tighten his grip on the country.
A little O/T, but Poland's new Prime Minister didn't have the EU flag in the background at her weekly presser. The EU's going bye bye.
I concur on China James. The EU .... if a few more million migrants try to get into the EU next year, and Germany continues its open door policy .... the EU is going to change fundamentally into something else.

This Xi is one to watch.
And here is an older one about fear of China and its development strategy. By a Russian ex pat no less.

RRH,
"This Xi is one to watch." You're right. Whether it is to see how long he lasts or how much damage he causes.
We shall see James.
My money is on the song bird's mate.
