Politico: White House: No major shift in U.S. ISIL strategy
President Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser said on Sunday the U.S. would stand “shoulder to shoulder” with France in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris, but ruled out sending large numbers of combat troops to Iraq and Syria to fight the Islamic State.
“We do not believe that there is a solution to the challenge in Syria or Iraq that involves significant numbers of U.S. combat troops going in,” Ben Rhodes said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I think what you are going to see is continued intensification of the air campaign,” he added in an interview from Turkey, where the president is attending an economic summit of world leaders, who are now focusing in large part on Friday’s attacks in Paris.

WNU Editor: The current strategy appears to not be working .... that is why I find the current White House position "disturbing". The above (and below) videos are two different and brutal interviews with President Barack Obama’s deputy national security adviser (done this morning) .... and in his spin he does not give me any confidence that the U.S. policy will be successful.

"shoulder to shoulder"
we've heard that sh*t before ..
WNU why can't the US just be a bit humble about it's current strategy and start working with Russia and Syria on this one. Honestly, the last time the US and Russia fought a common enemy we all know what happened (Nazis anyone??)
Or is this about not antagonizing "Allies" like Saudi Arabia?
Alex,
Russia is not in Syria to defeat ISIS.
Russia is in Syria to protect and defend the Syrian State, and that requires wiping out all the jihadi terrorists, ISIS included.
Operation Inherent Resolve's goal is to "degrade" ISIS, and the U.S. position is that the Syrian State must be broken and destroyed, so some jihadi head chopping genocidal terrorists must be armed, funded and allowed to succeed, while ISIS must be just weakened and degraded.

Obama pledges to destroy isis but wont change a severley flawed policy of inaction.lol
France needs to push the ussue invoke nato and force the u.s to take its thumb out of its a##$
fazman,
France won't.
Any "effective" campaign against ISIS needs to target ISIS's sources of funds, arms and recruits, which means going after Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the GCC, plus, the CIA, Pentagon, DGSE, MI5 and the MIT.
Won't happen as 2/3'ds of France's arms sales are to those very States.
The second requirement of any "effective" campaign would require making nice with the Syrian State for their HUMINT, which won't happen as French Politicians have had a hate on for Syria ever since they kicked the French out for good in 1951, and Hollande has wanted Assad's head on a spike since 2006, going so far as to violate the EU Embargo and giving money, training and arms to units that wound up in ISIS.
Where do you think all those FAMAS, MILAN's, M-2's, HOT3's, Browning Hi-powers, G-3's, FNFAL's, Steyr's, Stigs and le-FH 105mm howitzers came from?
Assads not a threat to the west never had been and never will.
Let him stay in power and take out all these rebel groups who are only moderate until they get power then they become militant.
PUTIN was right when he said oh its ok to hit moderate rebels because we will make sure we only use moderate weapo s on them.
@Alex. Please understand that it is not the US that needs to become humble on this issue but rather Obama and his failed administration. The people mostly feel much differently.
fazman,
Assad's Syria is a "threat" to the West. It's hard to steal from strong central Governments who have to put the needs of their people ahead of the want's of Corporations.
After 6 years of "Assad is Hitler", the MSM, Politicians and all the toadies through out Government can't just suddenly 180,
It makes all the years of propaganda too visible.
At best, what they can do is start another "Villian du Jour = Hitler" campaign and hope that after three or four years in, people forget the "Assad=Hitler" campaign.
The U.S, British, French, Saudi, GCC and Turkish position still remains that Assad must go, Syria must be debaathified, and the moderate, heart eating, genocidal Islamic Jihadi's who believe the entire world should convert to their form of Islam, or die, that the entire world should be ruled by a Caliph and return to the 12th Century, should be put in charge of Syria.
Youre right there is a world of difference between what should be done and what will be done
Fazman
Saudi Arabia is the responsible for the 911 attack period .and you can correct me if I'm wrong, this is how it works
The US military can easy defeat this idiots on billy goat sandals arm with AK 47s but is one problem they don't want to..... why?
No terrorists equal to no boggieman
No boggieman equals to people not being afraid
No being afraid equals to people not willing to pay on massive spending on defense through the military industrial complex
No boogie man equals no justification for this expensive military and intelligence agencies .
In the US no boogie man equal to no justification for warrantless spying on law abiding citizens. so this way they can create a problem then people get very scared and they come out with solution and the game is over on the 21 century that is call centralization of power. Let's see how it ends for us.
