Pentagon: U.S. Will No Longer Conduct Military Operations Against The Taliban In Afghanistan. Sees Taliban As Reconciliation Partners

DAWN: US sees Taliban as reconciliation partners: Pentagon

WASHINGTON: The US Department of Defence has said that it’s no longer conducting counter-terrorism operations against the Taliban in Afghanistan because it views the group as an important partner in its efforts for restoring peace in the war-ravaged country.

“What we’re not doing (is) counter-terrorism operations against the Taliban,” Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis told a Wednesday evening news briefing in Washington.

“We actually view the Taliban as being an important partner in a peaceful Afghan-led reconciliation process. We are not actively targeting the Taliban,” he added.

Update: Not conducting any operation against Afghan Taliban, view them as ‘Reconciliation Partners': United States (Daily Pakistan).

WNU Editor: News outlets in Pakistan are posting this story .... but there has been no confirmation from Western outlets. This gives me hope that this story may not true. But if this story is true .... my jaw will drop even more from where it is right now.

Update: It is official, the U.S. will no longer conduct counter-terrorism operations against the Taliban in Afghanistan ....

.... We continue though in Afghanistan, even though our primary missions is train, advise, and assist, we’ve actually retained a U.S.-only – this is actually not coalition, but it’s a U.S.-only unilateral role of being able to conduct counterterrorism missions in Afghanistan primarily against al-Qaida and its remnants, but ISIS would be fair game as well. What we’re not doing counterterrorism operations against is the Taliban. We don’t – we actually view the Taliban as being an important partner in a peaceful Afghan-led reconciliation process. We are not actively targeting the Taliban. [1]

WNU Editor,

If it's confirmed,

Does that mean we can start calling Americans " cheese like processed product eating surrender monkeys?"

"Oceania was at war with Eastasia: Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia. A large part of the political literature of five years was now completely obsolete. Reports and records of all kinds, newspapers, books, pamphlets, films, sound-tracks, photographs — all had to be rectified at lightning speed. Although no directive was ever issued, it was known that the chiefs of the Department intended that within one week no reference to the war with Eurasia, or the alliance with Eastasia, should remain in existence anywhere. The work was overwhelming, all the more so because the processes that it involved could not be called by their true names. "

Okey dokey.

No fazman, not for nothing.

They, and thousands of Afghans died so a few high on the hog scumbags could get even richer and cover their tracks in the process. It never had anything to do with stopping the Taliban or "sending little girls to school."

Like is attracted to like.

WNU Editor,

The briefing was for Foreign Press only,

I expect the propaganda organs of the MSM will keep it on the down low.

Jay .... a few main stream reporters (European and Asian) read this blog. It is too big of a story to keep under wraps. If they start covering it, the U.S. will follow suit ... albeit a few days late (as always).

RRH said...

Another thing they're keeping on the down low is the @$$whoopin the Saudis/GCC are taking from the Yemeni Houthis and army. Looks like the UAE just rotated the "second batch" in. Apparently the "first batch" is quite a bit short of a full batch.

The Yemenis are pretty good at hitting ships too I see.

Yes, they need time to crank up the ol kaleidoscope.

WNU Editor,

Press conference was on Wednesday, it's coming up on Sunday,

And the MSM is too busy pushing for new wars, to accurately report on old wars,

Jay. I posted this story 2 hours ago .... 319 page views so far .... and on a Saturday night (which is always dead time). By Sunday morning .... I predict 1,000 views. And some of those who will read it are people who run websites that far bigger than this one .... and I am sure they are going to run with it. That is what I love about the internet .... it is hard to keep a story under wraps, and when it creates a certain momentum the MSM usually has to follow suit (with their own spin of course).

Wow...

Logically speaking, this may be the best route for achieving stability, but still... wow.

Of course this was not announced by the White House, so if there is too much furor they can come back and say no no no that's not really what we meant blah blah blah.
No one should really be surprised considering the moves this Administration has made over the last SEVEN YEARS! The group in charge of the White House is concerned about domestic politics to exclusion of all other things. The naval vessel driving around in the Black Sea, the stryker convoy parade (with big flags) in the Baltics, the so called sanctions in response to the Crimea and Ukraine, the airborne battlion here and there in Europe with a squadron of fighters tagging along, the Syrian training program for "moderate" rebels, the 100 wait no fifty special forces in Syria, the drive by of the naval vessel in the South China Sea, I could go on, but all....all political theater for a domestic audience.
This group most likely wants to pull us back in the Pacific to a line roughly west of Hawaii, out of the Middle East, and out of Europe. They sincerely believe that not only has our foreign policy of the last 70 years been wrong, but a complete waste of money that they could spend in the US, of course for policies that just happen to align with their political outlook. Between now and the general election they will nullify, abrogate, or just walk off on every single commitment the US has had since WWII. Are they right? Who knows? I don't think so, but only time will tell. In the interim Japan, Korea, Australia all of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Israel, Great Britain, Europe, and any other place that thinks it needs US help had better think again, you are on your own.
Putin was the first to realize this (remember WNU when I said he had Obama's measure) then Xi. Why do people think Putin went into the Crimea, did what he did in the Ukraine, and now Syria? Besides for his ideological reasons he knew there would be no problem from the West. China will close the South China Sea, southeast Asia will move into their orbit, and they will continue to work for secure sea lanes through the Malacca Straits. Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Australia will make noises, but will have ot come to an understanding with China.
In the future the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Caucuses will be the playgrounds for war.
Now I'll shall go play golf and see what comes.
