The Case For Why The Russians Will NOT Be Able To Defeat The U.S. Army

Mark Adomanis, Forbes: Could The Russians Defeat The US Army?

Within very recent memory, the near-universal consensus on Russia’s military was that it was a hollow, empty shell of its former Soviet might. It was widely agreed that the Russian army had been fatally weakened by a combination of corruption, incompetence, greed, and the demographic crisis of the 1990′s (which greatly limited the number of healthy military-age males). Budgets were being stolen, there was an “absence of real reform,” and the head of the Russian defense ministry was personally implicated in theft and murder. It did not seem like a promising institutional framework in which to build a lean, modern, and effective military.Consider, for example, the following quote, which comes from an instructor at the Naval Postgraduate School:

Events in the Crimea do not alter this basic fact. Russia is passing from the scene in this sense, with an unsustainable economic and maybe even political model. It could be argued that a central challenge of the 21st century will, in fact, be the collapse of the Russian state when the oil runs out and Putin’s mafia cronies are all enjoying themselves in their villas in the French Riviera

Previous Post: Are The Experts Correct When They Say That The Russians Would ‘Annihilate’ The US Army On The Battlefield? (Update)

WNU Editor: What has been omitted in this discussion is what is the other side thinking .... do the Russians believe that they are capable of defeating the U.S. Army. The answer to that question is a ....  yes and no. If a war is fought on Russia's borders, the Russians are very confident that they will annihilate the U.S.. If a war is fought elsewhere .... away from Russia's borders .... they are not confident at all. Logistics and transport is the problem .... and the Russians have a serious deficiency there. But this discussion is probably moot. Any major war between the U.S. and Russia will go nuclear very fast (within a day or two) .... there will be no time for tank battles and aerial dogfights .... everyone's focus after such an exchange will go from combat to picking up the pieces and taking care of the survivors.

I dont get why you keep bringing up the nuclear card, mad doctrine has kept nukes in their silo for generations and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.

I think it would be pretty stupid to fight the Russian on home turf, and I think we would be surprised by the number of reserves as well.
