U.S. Wants The Iraqi Army To Liberate Ramadi Without Delay

USA Today: U.S. presses Iraqi army to get on with Ramadi offensive

Sounding a new note of urgency, the U.S.-led coalition combating the Islamic State is pressing Iraq’s armed forces to launch a final assault to recapture the key city of Ramadi, a campaign entering its sixth month with only limited progress.

“It's time for the Iraqis to … make this final move,” said Col. Steve Warren, the coalition military spokesman in Iraq.

The remarks reflect a change in the Pentagon's public comments about the offensive. Pentagon officials had earlier said the offensive had not stalled and emphasized the complexity of the battle. But now that the Pentagon has provided the assistance Iraq's armed forces had requested to retake the city, it is stepping up pressure on Iraq to move ahead against the militants holed up in the city, 80 miles west of Baghdad.

WNU Editor: The U.S. needs a victory .... they are losing credibility in the eyes of their allies, and coupled with the political pressure back in the U.S. on the need to show progress .... everyone is now feeling their strain. My prediction .... the Iraqi army and the Shiite militia are not going to listen to the U.S., they are going to strike when they feel like it.

I thought they would have captured Ramadi last month.

They captured the Western train station, which is good. But it is not a particularly built up area. So how much was that ISIS ceding ground and American air power and how much was it Shia militia effectiveness?

If ISIS continues to gain recruits and overall gains military manpower, do the militias have time to ____ around?

If the Russians hadn't come in and breathed new life into the Syrian front, I think ISIS could have lost Ramadi and retaken it several months later.

Now I am not so sure.

ISIS might be under siege in Mosul in 6 to 12 months.

Unless Turkey opens up the flood gates again.
