Breitbart: What Happens if Russia Mistakenly Downs a U.S. Jet over Syria?
JERUSALEM – It was only a matter of time before Tuesday’s incident in which NATO member Turkey shot down a Russian-made warplane near the Syrian border.
The skies in and around Syria are increasingly used by multiple countries with conflicting interests in the years-long insurgency targeting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Immediate questions need to be raised about the likelihood of another such incident occurring in the future. Next time, it could involve the U.S. and Russia.
The opposing narratives of Tuesday’s incident are instructive. The Turkish military claims it warned the Russian-made SU-24 warplane 10 times in five minutes that it was violating Turkish airspace. Russia claims it can prove its aircraft was flying over Syria.
WNU Editor: If A Russian jet shoots down a U.S. military plane over Syria (by a military jet or by a S-300 missile battery).... the U.S. will probably retaliate using F-15s based in Turkey .... U.S. Is Ready To Wage Dog-Fights Against Russian Jets Over Syria. This in turn will mean that U.S. forces and allied bases in the region are now targets for Russian military retaliation ... and they will retailiate. In short .... such a conflict will quickly escalate. But the same question can be said about the other side ... what happens if a U.S. jet shoots down a Russian jet. Same result .... an escalation where I have trouble seeing it stop.

You forget that Obama is in charge which equates to his we strongly condem speech blah blah then nothing , nothing at all.
Id put my money on an over zealous Turkish officer got this one wrong
I have to disagree WNU Editor, I do not see an escalation on both sides, just a further deteriorating situation, but not war, nor the fact that other targets will become fair game.
However, context is important. If it was determined that it was a 'deliberate' act in shooting down a jet, then it is likely that the situation would escalate very rapidly.
I also feel that the Russians would be more inclined to escalate matters than the US.
fazman,
"Id put my money on an over zealous Turkish officer got this one wrong"
I think you're very right with one little possibility that there was a "tacit" understanding from above (very deniable of course) that he felt gave him the green light. Right or wrong though, eventually some junior officer's head will be produced for explanation.
At the least this gives Putin a handy pretext for future moves.
Yeah james he would have been given a standing order and now everyone will hang him out to dry.
I do not see the U.S. retaliation against the Russians federation in the case of an American warplane going down .
Not under this administration .
President Obama only enemy is the political opposition from the conservative rank, like the Tea party and gun owner's returning veterans and Christian's .
Yes, but the U.S. has our fearless leader, the Messiah (The One), who has never one a fist fight in his life.
So what could go wrong?
correction
"won" not "one"
