US News and World Report: Aung San Suu Kyi’s Opposition Party Wins Myanmar Election

Ruling party admits defeat but election marred by controversy.

The ruling party in Myanmar has admitted defeat to the opposition party led by Aung San Suu Kyi in a historic election for the struggling democracy.

Myanmar, also known as Burma, voted Sunday in the freest parliamentary elections in 25 years. The ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party of current President Thein Sein is backed by the military, but has acknowledged the National League for Democracy has bested them.
