Donald Trump Calls Putin's Compliments A 'Great Honor'

The Hill: Trump calls 'highly respected' Putin's comments a 'great honor'

Donald Trump said on Thursday it was a “great honor” to be complimented by “highly respected” Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“It is always a great honor to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his own country and beyond,” the GOP presidential front-runner told supporters at a rally in Columbus, Ohio.

“I have always felt that Russia and the United States should be able to work well with each other towards defeating terrorism and restoring world peace, not to mention trade and all of the other benefits derived from mutual respect,” he added.

WNU Editor: To begin .... this is somewhat accurate .... Here's What Vladimir Putin Really Said About Donald Trump Today (Mother Jones). As for today`s remarks .... commentary in the American press and among American politicians on Putin's remarks has been predictable .... it is divided among those who support Trump (who have basically been quiet on Putin's remarks) .... and those who do not (which is basically everyone else .... and they have been very vocal and negative). As to what is my take .... Putin has some very smart people around him who study and analyse the American political scene very closely. And while they may have been a bit behind on the rise of Trump when he was campaigning this summer (in August most of my former colleagues did not know who Trump was .... and those who did know about him felt that his campaign would eventually collapse) .... they are definitely on top of what is happening right now. From what I now understand .... the Russian foreign office believes that Trump is not only a very formidable Presidential candidate .... but they have made the decision that there is a very good chance that he may actually win it .... and they have told Putin just that. Putin is a master politician .... the Trump question that was asked during his presser was a plant, and he answered it knowing that it would produce a reaction back in the U.S.. But here is the surprise .... Trump's response to Putin's remarks is something that Putin himself would say if a foreign leader had praised him. In a certain way .... both Trump and Putin have positioned themselves that in the event that Trump does win it .... their first conversation/meeting will start from a certain level of mutual respect and a willingness to develop a personal relationship .... which is exactly how world leaders should behave. Then again .... this can easily all blow up and it will be for nothing.

On a side note .... Russian media interest in Trump has been growing in the past month .... and with the exception of his position on closing the borders .... very little of it has been negative. As for the rest of the Republican filed .... Russian media has been overwhelmingly negative. As for Hillary Clinton .... they respect her but they are not excited by her.

WNU,
I'm with you on your analysis, but I bet the people at the Kremlin are scratching their heads wondering about US politics.

One thing to count on - Mr. Trump won't be getting a Nobel prize as an inauguration gift.

James .... there are some smart apples .... but many of them do not understand how the American electorate makes their decisions on who to vote for.

I have always said that to really understand what is happening in the U.S., you will need to live inside the country and/or at least in Canada where one can be exposed to what is happening in the U.S.. In all of my years I think I have met only 2 or 3 Russian foreign policy officials who understand the nuances in American politics. As for Russia's intelligence services .... I can only guess on what they are thinking when it comes to U.S. politics.

I live in Canada, and have watched American Politics for years and for the life of me I can't understand why the American people chose the who they chose, I don't even understand why Canadians vote for who they vote for. I think that there should be some kind of intelligence/shallowness test to get to be able to vote, voting for someone based on their TV show, their smile or their looks is no way to chose a leader.
