Iranian Revolutionary Guards launched rockets near the U.S. aircraft-carrier Harry S. Truman and other warships as they were entering the Gulf on Saturday, giving only brief notice in a "highly provocative" act, a U.S. military spokesman said on Tuesday.

NBC News, citing unnamed U.S. military officials, said the Guards were conducting a live-fire exercise and the Truman came within about 1,500 yards (meters) of a rocket.

"The rockets were not fired at the Truman and other ships, only near them," the network said.

Several Revolutionary Guard vessels fired the rockets "in close proximity" of the warships and nearby merchant traffic "after providing only 23 minutes of advance notification," said Navy Commander Kyle Raines, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command.

"These actions were highly provocative, unsafe, and unprofessional and call into question Iran's commitment to the security of a waterway vital to international commerce," Raines said in an email.

WNU Editor: These rockets landed only 1,500 meters away from the aircraft carrier. Considering how big an aircraft carrier is .... this live fire exercise was done deliberately by the Iranians to provoke a reaction and to send a message. Interestingly .... the Iranian commander of the Revolutionary Guard navy was condemning the U.S. presence in the Persian Gulf only a few days ago .... Iranian Naval Chief Decries US Presence in Persian Gulf as ‘Source of Conflict’ (Algemeiner).

Well it is the Persian Gulf, and it was a mile away.

The 5+1 made a deal to regulate Iran's Nuclear Energy Program,

Not a deal to remove all the issues and resentments between the US and Iran and become BFF's.

As Obama has often said: 'All options are on the table."
The US has made it crystal clear that the concocted "nuclear crisis" was only one issue and that the others remain.
The "Iran nuclear crisis" was dreamed up as a fairly recent gimmick in the long-standing US goal of regime change in Iran. It's a goodie and has staying power. But in a pinch the US also has other grievances which have been bases for US sanctions on Iran and they remain The US can do this because it controls world banking. Other concocted issues:
--human rights abuses
--development of unconventional weapons and ballistic missiles
--support for international terrorism
--deceptive banking
--computer and network disruption, monitoring, and tracking
--faulty elections
--evading sanctions

Iran knows all this, of course, therefore the missiles, a sort of extended middle finger which Iran is enjoying because of its various recent victories over the U.S.

You throw air punches that come an inch away from someone's face, expect to be taken as hostile.

Shoot and ask no questions.

A (vulnerable) US carrier in the Gulf is insurance against any US attack.
