David French, NRO: The Hidden Reason Why Americans Dislike Islam
Yesterday, YouGov and the Huffington Post released a poll showing that large majorities of Americans — and pluralities across every political demographic — have an “unfavorable opinion” of the Islamic faith. The numbers are simply not close:
There will be no doubt some hand-wringing about “Islamophobia” and further calls to continue the American elite’s fourteen-year track record of whitewashing Islamic beliefs and culture, but I wonder if the media is missing a powerful, largely-uncovered influence on America’s hearts and minds — the experience and testimony of the more than two million Americans who’ve served overseas since 9/11 and have experienced Islamic cultures up-close.
WNU Editor: The above poll focuses on American views towards Muslims. Mind you .... if the same poll was done today in Islamic countries and they were asked about the Christian/Secular West .... I suspect the result would even be more shocking .... (and they do not have Islamic soldiers returning from America in the hundreds of thousands). PEW did a large poll sample in 2013 on Muslim opinion .... those result are probably out of date, but it reveals the importance of Sharia in their beliefs, and it gives another indication on how big the cultural divide exists between predominantly Christian/secular countries, and those that follow Islam. That poll/study is here .... The World’s Muslims: Religion, Politics and Society (PEW)
On a personal note .... two of my cousins did tours in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation in the 1980s.... their views towards Muslims are .... even to this day .... to put it politely .... openly hostile .... and I blame it on their experiences during the war. One of my closest friends in Russia has a relative who is now serving in Syria (from what I understand he is a mechanic for jet engines) .... there is no hostility or animosity there (yet). As to what is my own take on Muslims .... I try my best to look at these things from "outside the box" .... and while on an individual level I have no problems with Muslims, I do realize that on a macro level there is a terrible conflict occurring within the Muslim faith itself, and that conflict is now reaching a global level. My prediction .... while it is unfortunate that many Americans have an unfavourable view towards Muslims, that number pales when compared to the numbers in many European/African/and Asian countries right now .... and I will not be surprise if those numbers continue to increase.

We in our country are used to the idea that a few bad apples should not be used to judge the barrel of apples. Alas, a "few" given the many Muslims in the world and those that have been known to be antagonistic toward the west and/or have tried to harm us--well that number is much more than a few. Trump--and I dislike him--might have mentioned that one democracy that has no problem is Japan. Why"? They pretty much keep Muslims out.
I have begun to look at the Koran. Lots of hate there. Ok. Hate in the bible too. But when a jihadist goes to his death or is doing evil, he more often than not cites his Koran as justification. Do you hear that from Jewish or Christian bad guys?
google search "what does the Koran say about Jews and Christians" and then ask if what has been said in the Koran no longer applies, has been dismissed or ignored through the years.

Just more fear mongering Islamophobic crap from the MSM.
As ususal, Digby has a relevant infographic:

France has started the process of formally asking for the Statue of Liberty back, and Lenard Keys, great, great grandson of Francis Scott Keys, is rewriting the song to replace "home of the Brave", with #cowering in fear and hate.
First black people, then the Jews and now Muslims.....when will the hate end?
Have you been there before . or you are just assuming that the news have any interest on telling you the truth. I do not have hate for anyone but we have to call it as it is.
Jay,
Very nice. I could do the same graph of 1930s America and NAZIs. It would be just as valid.

Sharia is compatible with live and let live? OR women's rights? Or minority rights?
The poll is dead on accurate.

The old corruption is back in power, and many are now positioning themselves to make big money from this humanitarian crisis.
I should know .... I helped a lot of Russians refugees/landed immigrants in the 1990s to settle in Montreal (after I had become a Canadian citizen). I saw how government money was spent, wasted, exploited, stolen, and abused (The Gomery commission only lightly touched how deep corruption is in the Liberal Party). And now the same gang ... the same immigration consultants/lawyers/bureaucrats/and providers of services are back doing exactly what they did before Harper ... but the money is now bigger. MUCH BIGGER! And they have been away from the trough for a decade. personally .... I hope your neck of the woods will be far more just and honourable in giving these refugees the help that they deserve ... because that is not the priority here.
WNU Editor,
Well, at least it's not Construction Contracts.
EI is "managing" the Employment Subsidy here, so everybody know's it's going to be 6 months, stalls and audits's out the wazoo, before an Employer see's their first subsidy cheque, if they get one.
Still, Employer's, in the Tech, Engineering and Medical fields are getting onboard.
So true Jay ... at least it is not construction contracts. Pray that the west coast never gets the level (and extent) of corruption that exists here.
