BBC: Afghan Taliban leader Mansour 'wounded in gunfight'

Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour has been wounded in a gunfight at a meeting of militants in the Pakistani city of Quetta, reports say.

A source close to the Taliban told the BBC that shots were fired after an argument at the meeting, killing four people and seriously wounding Mansour.

The Taliban's spokesman denied that the firefight took place.

Mullah Mansour's appointment prompted splits in the Taliban after its founder Mullah Omar's death emerged in July.

A number of senior Taliban commanders refused to pledge allegiance to him and a faction opposed to him was set up last month under Mullah Mohammad Rasool.
It is not confirmed if the splinter faction were behind the attack.

The source close to the Taliban said the firing seemed to be spontaneous rather than planned.
