The Pentagon Wants To Build An Army Of Super-Soldiers

The Pentagon's skunk works is creating technology to build the 'super soldier' of the future. It envisions using augmented reality to help ground troops identify targets, sources of gunfire and help with communication

Daily Mail: US military reveals it hopes to use artificial intelligence to create cybersoldiers and even help fly its F-35 fighter jet - but admits it is ALREADY playing catch up

* Darpa says it envisions using augmented reality to help ground troops
* It will identify targets, sources of gunfire and help with communication
* To make this a reality, it has now awarded research contracts to several companies to develop the technology

The US military has revealed its plans for artificial intelligence on the battlefield - but admits enemies are already ahead of it.

It hopes AI will power everything from cybersoldiers to the targetting systems of the F-35 - but admits it has to catch up to commercial AI firms.

Deputy Defense secretary Robert Work said 'the commercial world has already made this leap.'

WNU Editor: I am sceptical of the AI stuff .... but the rest is becoming closer to reality with each passing day.

They're living in fantasy land instead trying to produces super soliders how about producing the soldiers the quality of the Marines circa 1942, or BEF of 1914, the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry of 1951. The problem with the western military leadership they watch way to many stupid Hollywood movies. Super soldiers, I think the people running things have eaten way too many paint chips.

TWN,

The Marines never really amounted to much until late '42. The 1914 B.E.F. In less hailiograhic assessments, other than some of the "despised" Territorial Regiments, performed horribly, and Senior Staff wanted to retreat from France before first contact. The PPLI in Korea, on the other hand, had at it's core, hardened WWII vets.

The Pentagon push for AI and "Battle Robot's" is the same as the push for a Volenteer Army after Vietnam. Post Iraq 2003, once again enlistment's are down to the dregs, willing to fight questionable, unwinnable wars because they can't get a full time shift at a McJob.

The Quality of Soldiers is not just limited by weapons, tactics, training and strategy, it is also limited by The Cause, and The Stake.

It's becoming harder and harder to enlist quality foot soldiers for the cause of Globalization, when it means further economic privation back at home.

AI Systems, robotics and smart weapons do not question orders, or the Cause, or the Stakes.
