Rachelle Marshall, Foreign Policy In Focus: Ashton Carter’s Plan to Expand U.S. Military Presence Across the Globe Even Further
As if the current 662 U.S.military bases around the world from which air strikes can be launched aren’t enough.
How many Americans are aware that the U.S. is currently engaged in five wars — in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Yemen, and that our forces are involved in lesser conflicts in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia? The answer is, probably very few. These wars are largely out of the news, and since there are seldom any American casualties, they are virtually invisible.
Combat operations primarily involve drones operated from thousands of miles away, and bombs dropped from thousands of feet in the air. According to the Pentagon, there are currently 662 U.S.military bases around the world from which air strikes can be launched using a variety of aircraft. Also stationed on these bases are Special Operations forces that carry out hit-and-run raids and sinations in various parts of the world.
WNU Editor: And are we safer with such a presence?

And the U.S is mad because Russia have 3 maybe.
The question really is; without the presence of a quasi- benevolent power and allies, to keep the crud of the world at bay, would we all be able to live a life of relative freedom and liberty?
I say absolutely not, given the radical vermin that want to take us back to a totalitarian Middle Ages. The very reason this and other valuable international relations blog resources never lack crisis, juntas and tech and material to educate us about. Just as we wouldn't have wanted to live under the Third Right, we also have no desire to live under Chinese, Daesh or any other substandard regime. This is why we owe you all a great debt of gratitude, for protecting us from the 'evils' of the world. Or would we want Xi or Bagdadi to show us the way. Obama and Trudeau fit the bill for me. This is why there are bases and deployments, to keep the despots at bay. We may disagree on the level of despotism or who qualifies. But we all love freedom or a derivitative there of. America is far from perfect and so is my birth home of Canada, but both our superior to most and worth of my blood and treasure to defend. And if the Russian or Chinese people knew what true freedom tasted like, they would quickly turn their backs on their own despots. Until we discover a world of peace somewhere else in this universe, we better take care of the imperfect communities we are fortunate to be residing in.
Best to all!
if the US pulled out of every major critical spot in the world today, there would be a negative effect in the power vacuum that would quickly turn chaotic. it is wise to learn the central lesson of the past half-century of human experience: for the worlds own sake and that of those who love freedom everywhere, the US must be militarily pre-eminent.
sadly, the current state of american politics is quickly and deliberately pissing on the graves of brave americans (along with countless allies) that fought and died in wars (on behalf of the world) dating back to the first world war till now.
And the U.S is mad because Russia have 3 maybe.

It is not the quantity or even the location of Russian, Chinese or Iranian bases. It is always the intent!
I am pretty sure that most people in this country, USA, do not want to dominate the world or any other individual or group, beside radical religious extremist; i.e. Islamist. This may be a different model than use to exist in a less thoughtful and more self centered American foreign policy,as recently as the 2000's and back 100 years.
Now is different, a different leadership, not as outwardly muscular but just as decisive and certain about the freedoms to be preserved.
Threaten that, and you eventually have a problem. It is not a weakness, to be compassionate or to want to hold back on the violence. But when push comes to shove, even Pres. Obama is going to kick ass.
I hope the only reason for the US to remain predominant as a superpower is because the standards, global values and freedoms that all people desire, are in need of defense from a range of groups, nations and leaders, that have no interest in the wellbeing of all human kind.
This is a worthy reason.
These bases and deployments are the thin line that attempts to hold back the human apocalypse we are creating from corrupted social, political and religious dogma.
Just my opinion, thanks for reading.
Best to all and thank you for your service.
