Ukraine Defaults On $3.5 Billion Loan To Russia

New York Times: Ukraine Halts Repayments on $3.5 Billion It Owes Russia

MOSCOW — The Ukrainian government declared a moratorium Friday on repaying about $3.5 billion in debt to Russia, introducing new strains to an already poisonous relationship.

Ukraine’s cabinet prohibited further payments to Russia unless Moscow agrees to join a restructuring program that has been accepted by commercial creditors — a step President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has rejected — or a court orders Ukraine to pay up.

Ukrainian officials said that paying the Russians in full now, after commercial creditors agreed last summer to a 20 percent write-down and long delays in repayments, would be illegal and run counter to Ukraine’s $17.5 billion International Monetary Fund bailout.

From Maidan day one, my opinion has been that these "euro-ukies" are straight up scumbags. Nothing they've done since has changed that assessment. I'd spend my money on a trip to the DPRK before I'd set a foot in Ukrop Ukraine.

The country should be treated as a pariah state. Canada should expel the staff of the Ukrainian embassy and shutter it. The UCC should be ruthlessly repressed. The eastern republics should vote for Union with Russia as Crimea did; with Canada's support. All nationalist/fascist/white supremacist organizations and members here and there should be denied passports\international travel and have their activities and movements strictly monitored. All organizations sending "aid", shut down.

And that is just a start.

And one racist, fascist, flipping threat out of 'em and I'd support Canada going to war against them. Even if it meant conscription and taking out loans to get the means --from Russia-- to do it. Those B_________S and their little bad haircut torch lit marching a_______e buddies need to go.

And I'd pay to have every single Lenin (and a few of Stalin too) statue restored just to make the point sink in.

Yup, my Canada would slap the dog$#-+ out of them.

In fact in the case of a confrontation with Russia NATO forces will come to Aid Ukrain and Canadians are going to fight for the Nazi regime of western Ukrain. RRH sorry but there is no longer any hope for the Canadian government to stop kissing Washington ASS ....HO..HO..HO..can't wait for you response let's do this.. Since you have 3 comments and not a single response am appealing to James ,Jay and other's

NATO's not going to go to war with Russia over Ukraine, no more than they did Georgia. And Russia has no interest in taking over Ukraine, they are content to sit back and let the IMF, the empty EU promises, and Ukraininan corruption, hubris and mismanagement cause Ukraine to implode.

When the HarperCon's aid packages run out, the Trudeau Government will quietly not renew them, citing the Auditor General's report.

The NATO Training Mission will continue, and will be as effective as the missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.

For thr most part I agree with you Jay, but that doesn't address the issue. Canada supported and ran political cover for, openly fascist/racist groups and parties. Said parties have committed acts of violence/murder (eg Odessa massacre) against those who do not agree with their ideology or do not meet the ethnic-racial criteria. Canada has also allowed fundraising and aid to be sent directly to these groups.

So, yeah, a post Auditor General Report withdrawal of support, quiet or not would be welcome; but it's not nearly enough. Round these f###ers up! Whether in or out of government.

And Si-vis... bait taken. Hope you have a lot of line to pay out.

I have grandkids. Like I told Jay, the future, including Canada's, belongs to them. If I have anything to say about it (and I will) they're going to stand up for a decent, honourable, respectable, ethnically diverse and sovereign Canada. This means no fascists, ethnic/racial supremacy, no baglickers and FULL employment...If you dont want to work, Canada will not be for you.. Civil wars have been fought for less.

And Mfers who don't like it can leave. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

RRH,

There won't be any arrests and prosecutions, as the Liberal Mandate is thin, maybe after a second term, but there will probably be a program to "shut down" some of the private funding programs, more so as groups like Right Sector take on the Ukrainian Government.

I didn't vote Lib, but I am glad Trudeau won, as Canada today, feels more and more like Canada before the Harpercon's, and Justin has done a stellar job keeping his election promises front and center in his Government platform, despite many pundit's claims that he would abandon them, due to the challenges and difficulties.

It is too early to say what will happen in Canada Jay. Economic storm clouds are coming .... and being one who has been down this road more than once .... that will dictate government policies in ways that we can only imagine.

In regards to Ukraine .... I do not share your optimism Jay. I do not know if you recall, but a few months ago I was curious on what was your opinion on this post

http://www.brookings.edu/research/essays/2015/myukraine

She is now Canada's Minister of International Trade .... and is playing a major role in formulating Canadian - Ukraine policy. If her views are adopted .... which I have been told they will be on economic and trade .... she will make Harper's policy towards Ukraine look insignificant.

A Hope you know that I was joking
But I feel your pain we all are in the same boat .
The same wind of change is blowing across the Land .
5000 years ago god told the people to pick up your shovels and ride you camels and ass ,I will guide you to the promised land 75 years ago Theodore Roosevelt told the people put your shovel down light up a camel you are in the promised land. Now the government are taking the shovel tax your ass, mortgage house and last night I was so depressed about nation's debt war's and unfounded liability that I called the suicidal hotline and answer machine told me for Ingle's press one and someone in Pakistan answerd ,I told them that I wanted to kill me self and they asked me if I would like to get a bomb .RRH we are screwd.

WNU Editor,

"If her views are adopted .... which I have been told they will be on economic and trade .... she will make Harper's policy towards Ukraine look insignificant."

Harper's policies were to egg the Ukrainians on, loan them a few bucks, ship some "non-lethal aid" in the form of "expired due date" army surplus, and a "free trade" agreement that is anything but.

There's a lot that Canada could "teach" Ukraine, like living next door to an elephant, but in the end, it comes down to the Ukrainians, and I see the Libs as being much less ideological and militant than the Harpercon's.

War News Updates Editor said...

I hope you are right Jay. But like I said .... Chrystia Freeland is more ideological and hardcore than anyone that I know of in the past government .... and in this government. And if she is putting her two bits on what should be Canada's policy towards Ukraine (and Russia) .... groan .... a lot of people are going to be surprised.

War News Updates Editor said...

I forgot to mention ... she is still banned from entering Russia for her support of ultra-Ukrainian nationalists during (and after) the Maidan revolution. I guess trade deals between Canada and Russia are going to not be a priority for the Canadian government.

Si-vis-pasen- said...

Well Russia could have trade with Argentina and Brazil on agriculture neither Canada or Ukraine will never be able to compete.

Jay Farquharson said...

WNU Editor,

If it's "politics", well, nothing will cleanse a Ukrainian-Canadian of Ukrainian Nationalism, than having to deal with Ukrainian Nationalists.

With the HarperCon's on the other hand, it was that wannabe Old Cold War Religion, and we all know that when facts prove religion wrong, people just double down on that old time religion.

Thanks Jay and Si vis

Yes Jay, I prefer Trudeau as well and I get what you are saying. I didn't vote for him either. We had a big discussion about it at home and, well, I voted with my Wife.

Watching the crap unfold in the Ukraine, and Canada's role in it, really hit a nerve. Obviously it still does.

Si vis, no offence taken at all. I saw it for the good natured poke it was. I do my fair share of tormenting people on this forum. Being on the receiving end is just deserts.

As for being screwed,
I can only say those running the show better enjoy themselves while it lasts. When the gravy train finally comes to a halt, it just might be at a gulag in the NWT. I don't just talk to the kids. I listen. And Si vis, the ain't nearly as nice as us.

Canada dumping Russia over Ukraine is just plain stupid. Another move that should get its architect(s) a stint of hard arctic labour.
