New York Times: Iran Releases U.S. Sailors Accused of ‘Trespassing’
TEHRAN — Iran has released two United States Navy patrol boats and 10 crew members who were described as “trespassing” in Iranian waters near a major naval base, state news media reported on Wednesday.
The Pentagon and the State Department said that one of the boats had experienced mechanical problems en route to Bahrain from Kuwait on a routine mission on Tuesday, and the Iranians appeared to have accepted that explanation.
The release was announced shortly before 10 a.m. on an Iranian state-run news channel, IRINN. “The detained U.S. Marines, after it was realized that their entry into Iran’s territorial waters was unintentional, and after the Marines apologized, were released into international waters in the Persian Gulf,” the channel reported, attributing the statement to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The "nuclear deal might have something to do with it", penetrating analysis, I stand in awe.
WNU,
This time something serious about socks (really). If you look at the socks in the video it tells something about the makeup of the crew.
Wow .... you are right James. So much for standard issued socks.
Since 2001, US Military deployed overseas provide their own extra socks, underwear, gloves, long underwear, boots and batteries, lots and lots of batteries, as what is issued, is insufficient for "active" duty.
On the bright side, since 2006 they have not had to provide their own body armour or coat their vehicles with "hillbilly" armour.
Because a lot of this gear is provided by the families back at home, many whom get through the month with food stamps,

That means the socks are going to be what ever cotton sock is on sale in bulk at WalMart or the Dollar Store.
How low can you he go......Jay do your feet stink?
On a side note. It is only recently that the Russian army started giving socks to their soldiers. http://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2013/jan/16/russian-soldiers-replacing-foot-wraps-socks
Nope, I learned in my day to change socks regularly, as soon as they get damp. On the job site, in the early summer, that might be as often as 6 pairs a day, and I use high end technical socks, ( $15 a pair), not Made in Vietnam cotton sport socks at $4.99 a 12 pack.
It doesn't take long for damp feet to go bad, and if you can't walk or stand, you arn't much use.

Oh man.
Jay,
I'm going to stop reading your replies to baiting while eating.
Aside from the socks,
did you send the box of dicks to Oregon? I blamed it on the Iranians, but it may have been one of us apologists.
"did you send the box of dicks to Oregon",
Nope. It was a guy in Kansas.
"In 2014, I wrote about a giant problem facing the state of Kansas. As businesses closed and were seized for tax failure, the state of Kansas sold their assets off to the public. In the case of Bang!, Inc., it would be a giant sex toy sale. We thought: what a way to give back to my home state and, frankly, poke fun."
"and a half later, though, you find that these items sit in your friends garage for too long and it just isn’t funny. But how do you find a home for giant, double-ended dildos, blow up dolls and vibrating prostate toys, furry handcuffs and other items?
Struggling to find them a home, several days ago we stumbled onto a reddit post noting that maybe — just maybe — they would be useful for the Oregon protesters who sat alone waiting out the government.
After agreeing to the idea, we were all very pleased with ourselves. What better way to honor these protesting patriots then to provide them Sex Toys that helped power the state governed by Governor Sam Brownback? It seemed fitting. Sex toys from a pro-Tea Party governor to tea-party patriots."
Sad but true.
And if the crap keeps up this will be their new recruiting video

I leave the computer for just an hour. Chat with the GF before she takes her dog out for a long walk (-12C outside now brrrr!!!!!). Prepare some papers for my accountant. Talk with another friend. Come back .... cough cough .... quoting Ray Bradbury .... "The gargoyles have taken over the cathedral".
Jay
You ever think about righting a women's romance novel?
And if so fact or fiction?
Binderdundat,
Under a pseudonym, missed the literary trend the first time by being 70 years too late, (Anais Nin), and the second trend by being 15 years too early, (E. L. James), otherwise I'd be both wealthy and retired.
Still, it sold okay, and I got some interesting fan mail,
But it didn't sell as well as the technical manuals I've written, or even my critique on the pitfalls and dangers of Wilsonianism.
Oh. Oh man. That's just bad.
Funny, but bad.
They bring it on themselves, and it's not just the posturing and metrosexual grooming,

BTW, phill,
Belatedly thank your mother for me, for her very kind and explicit fan letter,
It provided both comfort and stimulation for me during that period of my divorce, and dating again.
It's like a trip to bizzarro world.
