Dave Majumdar, National Interest: 5 Saudi Weapons of War Iran Should Fear
With tensions flaring between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the specter of a war between the two powers is once again on the rise.
In recent days, Saudi Arabia has severed diplomatic ties with Tehran after Riyadh’s embassy was set ablaze on Saturday by an angry mob. The protesters were enraged after Saudi Arabia executed forty-seven prisoners—including a top Shia cleric by the name of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. The cleric—who had been arrested several times—often called for the Eastern Province to secede from the kingdom.
WNU Editor: These weapons are not helping Saudi Arabia in its war against the Houthis in Yemen .... why should they succeed against Iran?

WNU Editor,
Yup,
And the Abhrams and Apache's can't cross the Gulf,
The Iranian Pilots also have a stellar track record against insurmountable odds.
Plus the Iranians play the "long game" while the Saudi's appear to be off their rocker.
The saudi military budget is more than tenfold that of iran .
The iranian pilots have a less than stellar record against an equally incompetant foe both fly antiquated aircraft.
Typhoons and eagles against f14 and f5 knock offs no contest.
The submarine fleet will also be quickly neutralised by state of the art sub hunters and we we all know from oast experience how her frigates are unable to protect themselves from air attack
Why do people insist on making the iranian military out to be WAY more than it is.
.saudi arabia spent over $80 billion in 2014 alone on top shelf equipment against irans expenditure of $15 billion on home made weapons of dubious performance.
Factor in the UAE , bahrain and oman it jumps to 8 to 1.
Sorry guys this is a absoloute no contest.
Sorry not tenfold but approx 7 fold.
That's great, but all those jets rely on American maintenance, and their pilots are not exactly IAF pilots.
The Arabs have no strategic weapons, I guess they have been relying on US power projection all along, whereas Iran does have a considerable amount of ballistic missiles.
So while the Iranians are overrated and neither force could invade and defeat the other, the Arabs would take so much damage to their bases and oil infrastructure it would be foolish of them to start anything.
With so much "power", Yemen should have been a piece of cake.
Iran may not be all that and a bag of Phantoms, but the Wahhabis won't just be fighting them. Their record against the Houthis is embarrassing, and it seems, regardless of kit, the Wahhabis are only suited to fight those who lack the means to fight back.
The Iraqis would have stomped them in Gulf War #1 without their gangster buddies coming to the rescue. They were s###ing their pants when Hussein's tanks rolled across the border.
In a straight up fight with a country with a modicum of capability in materiel and fighting spirit, the only hope for the Saudis is the U.S., and Israel. And it is a hope not misplaced.
Not even a bit.
Thats also like saying isis and syria should be a puece of cake for the u.s with all their power
Yeah it would be if they were at war and decided to use it rather than being a police action at best or a p.r stunt at worst.
Same with yemen.
Well Faz, funny you should mention al Daeshaeda, who are not exactly or really at all "just like Yemen".
The Houthis are not "nod, nod, wink, wink enemies" like that. And, from what we can see, GCC "allies", Abrams tanks, helicopter gunsgips, mercenaries and all, the Wahhabis are most certainly at war in Yemen (just as their little scummy Wahhabi bum buddies are in Syria). PR stunts and "batches" of troops aside.
Remember that last "police action" in Libya Faz? You know, the one that deputized Bel Haj and the gang.
Nope. Nothing at all like Yemen, but a whole lot like Nicaragua/Contra, Haiti/FRAPH and Syria/alDaeshaeda.
fazman,
Keep in mind that in the Iran-Iraq War, in which Iraq was the pre-Gulf War behemoth and military power it was,
Iran, with some minor aid from Syria, the PUK and PPK,
Fought Iraq, backed with unlimited financial, technical and weapons support, ( including US satellite Intellegence and the latest chemical weapons) from the Soviet Union , France , Qatar, the United States, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Romania,
To a draw.
