New York Times: U.N. Envoy for Syria Says Peace Talks Will Begin Friday

GENEVA — The United Nations special envoy for Syria said Monday that he intended to start peace talks between the government and the opposition in Geneva on Friday, but acknowledged that every aspect of the process was shrouded with uncertainty.

Speaking on the day originally set for talks to begin, the envoy, Staffan de Mistura, told reporters that he would send invitations to the talks on Tuesday and start discussions three days later. Such is the sensitivity of the matter that he declined to identify whom he would invite.

His caution, Mr. de Mistura explained, is intended to “make sure that when and if we start, we start on the right foot.”

“It will be uphill anyhow,” he added.

They're threatening to walk out over the a$$ whoopin' being handed to them on a daily basis. If they don't want to be ground into powder they should stop making making ridiculous demands and surrender. Their sponsors should also stop encouraging their foolishness.
