U.S. Airstrike Destroys Millions Of Islamic State Cash In Mosul

CNN: First on CNN: U.S. bombs 'millions' in ISIS currency holdings

Washington (CNN)In an extremely unusual airstrike, the U.S. dropped bombs Sunday in central Mosul, Iraq, destroying a building containing huge amounts of cash ISIS was using to pay its troops and for ongoing operations, two U.S. defense officials told CNN.

The officials could not say exactly how much money was there or in what currency, but one described it as "millions."

Two 2,000-pound bombs destroyed the site quickly. But the longstanding impact may be even more significant. The officials said the U.S. plans to strike more financial targets like this one to take away ISIS's ability to function as a state-like entity.

But US "precision" bombs, which reportedly can be put through any designated building window, are unable to take out the ISIS leadership in this phony war conducted by the world's finest military. So they feed us rubes "financial targets."

It still begs the question:

Why has it taken this long?

Why so long? Why now? All good questions.

This is a very, very powerful and very elusive enemy. This is why its taken so long. As to why now, actionable intellegence will be needed, enemy defenses need to be oenetrated, etc. Also, witg the recent attacks in Paris and on the Russian airliner tge US very likely has support in areas it lacked previously.

While the US leadeship may have difering opions on how the war needs to be conducted, this does not make our effort "phony." A misallocation of resourdes perhaps but not phony.

If this proves true, this is very good news. US leadership has made some mistakes in their analysis before. As such, extreme care needs to be taken in whats reported.

Additionally with the recent attacks in Paris US officials are likely less likely to face war crimes tribunals for collateral damage than they ordinarly would face. I think this helps explain why now.

Finally, hooefully tge US and Russia can work together on this. Russia is the most powerful military force on earth and we are probably going to need their help with Iran.

WNU Editor,

I wonder how much of it was the Garner “bricks” of the $22billion of sanctioned and seized Iraqi money in the US that was illegally distributed as bribes, with out any accounting,

and how much of it was still in it’s origional wrapping, complete with gift tags?

Jay. When I first heard this story I said to myself .... someone skimmed from the top .... gave the coordinates to a "trusted U.S. intelligence source" .... then boom .... money gone (but not the 20% that was skimmed).

Sighhh ... I am becoming a cynic. :(

Naw, WNU Editor,

You are still a romantic, hoping this was a "Three Kings" heist, with an all Iraqi cast, lead by some Bank Teller or Bookkeeper forced by ISIS to count, bundle and stack ISIS loot,

A real cynic would hold that there was no airstrike, no money, and it's just a PR exercise to try to make it look like the CDO is doing something.

LOL
Touche Jay

A real cynic might see those piles of skimmed cash as a cache laid in for future "isinitiatives".

If in fact $2 billion dollars were destroyed by the air strikes in $100 dollars bill's the target Will look like 64 secure feet's or the size of a large house .
But if you transfer to Sirian denomination the target Will look roughly like a football field 20 feet's high. No need for precision bombs
