The Guardian: US navy launches first biofuel-powered aircraft carriers
Carrier strike group of four ships is the first to begin operating regularly with a blend of petroleum and biofuels made from beef fat
The US navy on Wednesday launched its first carrier strike group powered partly by biofuel a mix made from beef fat, calling it a milestone toward easing the military’s reliance on foreign oil.
The maritime branch touted the warships as the centrepiece of its “Great Green Fleet” part of a navy-wide initiative that aims to draw 50% of its power from alternative energy in four years.
For now, the mix fueling the ships is only 10% biofuels and 90% petroleum. The navy originally aimed for a 50-50 ratio, but the cost was too high, though that could change as competition grows in the alternative fuel industry, navy secretary Ray Mabus told reporters.

Just go back to sails and be done with non-renewables altogether.
We all know the main threat to the USN is climate change, not Chinese ballistic missiles, Iranian swarms of gunboats, or Russian subs.
Yep. The number one threat to the United States is "climate change." At least this is what the United States government thinks. The Russians, Chinese, Iranians and others who are actively trying to harm America are no doubt loving life right now.
The top foreign policy objective of the United States has been to shrink Israel, our most important ally, through the formation of a state of "Palestine", as though somehow weakening our most important buffer between us and Islamic terrorists is somehow going to bring us peace. Somehow the promotion of democratic governments in the Middle East was going to promote peace. For the US government or to work for the US government, to h!ll with common sense. All that matters is being down with the ideology. As I said, America's adversaries and potential adversaries are loving life right now.
