Opposition groups boycott meetings at Geneva talks in protest at Russian bombardment to support regime advances
Syrian regime troops were last night poised to score a decisive blow against rebel forces by surrounding Aleppo and severing their supply lines.
A wide-ranging regime offensive under the cover of intense Russian aerial bombardment left government soldiers within striking distance of Nubul and al-Zahraa, two regime-held towns north-east of the city.
If they connect up with the regime troops and fighters from Hizbollah and other Iranian-sponsored Shia militias who have been helicoptered in over the past two years, they will have cut the main artery of rebel support from Turkey to Aleppo.

I'm in awe of how Syria can still muster motivated troops after four years of a US and Gulf supported offensive against their government. The recent capabilities, of course, are due in large part to Russian intervention.
Love it how US enemy governments are called "the regime."
