China Adopting A More Aggressive Stance On The South China Sea



ABC News (Australia): South China Sea: China sends fighter jets to disputed Woody Island in 'clear militarisation' of area

China has sent fighter jets to a disputed island in the South China Sea, in a move that further ratchets up tensions over a maritime area claimed by six nations.

US officials said a Chinese Shenyang J-11 and a Xian JH-7 warplane were seen on Woody Island in the Paracel Archipelago in recent days, the same island where China last week deployed surface-to-air missiles.

The escalation in China's militarisation is sending an "uncompromising" message to the US, Dr Euan Graham from the Lowy Institute in Sydney said, as high-level talks are held between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
