Russian Prime Minister Medvedev: 'Russia And NATO Are Now In A New Cold War'

Sputnik News: Russia-NATO Relations Reach Level of New Cold War - Medvedev

Russia-NATO relations have reached the level of the new Cold War, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said addressing the participants of the Munich Security Conference.

NATO political line toward Moscow remains hostile and closed, the prime minister added.

"Russia-NATO relations have reached the level of a new 'cold war'. NATO continues to insist Russia constitutes its main threat — a threat to Europe as well as the US and other countries. Scary movies have been filmed where Russians begin a nuclear war. Sometimes I think: are we in 2016 or in 1962?" Dmitry Medvedev said.

The minister underscored that dialogue on Euro-Atlantic security is especially necessary in such a time.
"Our intensive dialogue on the future of Euro-Atlantic security, on global stability, on regional threats is particularly needed now. I find it abnormal that it almost completely stopped in many areas," he said.

WNU Editor: This Cold War is not the same as the previous one .... we do not have deployments of hundreds of thousands of troops, hundreds of nuclear missiles, thousands of tanks, etc. .... but relations are definitely in a "deep freeze", with little if any trust now existing between all sides. I remarked a few years ago (after the fall of Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi) that President Obama will be remembered as the President that ended the Post-Cold War era that both the East and West have enjoyed for the past 20+ years. I can now say unequivocally that today's remarks by Russian Prime Minister Medvedev's is the final nail of that era.

Times have changed. We no longer need to "have deployments of hundreds of thousands of troops, hundreds of nuclear missiles, thousands of tanks, etc..."
In the Eighties Germany had two competing armies and half of Europe was under the umbrella of the Warsaw Pact. Today it is almost all NATO... ALMOST ALL NATO.
Technology has replaced numbers (in some peoples mind). Modern war today between advance nation states is even more unpredictable than it was just twenty years ago. We in all reality have no clue what a truly modern total-war will look like.
It doesn't have to look like the Cold War of the Eighties to be even more serious.

Imagine how the Amero-Europhile liberal Medvedev must feel these days. Completely dis-enchanted and, perhaps, betrayed. Sometimes I wonder if, in their determination to reject all things Soviet, these post-Soviet leaders ignored and dismissed some of the very real lessons they were taught about "the west".

A hard head makes as sore a$$ as my Mom used to say.
