Syrian Peace Talks At Risk Of Collapse

Bloomberg: Syria Talks at Risk of Collapse Over Demands From Opposition

* Assad opponents threaten to quit Geneva talks by week end
* Russian air campaign bolstering Assad, who's on offensive

Syrian opposition groups are threatening to pull out of peace talks before they’re barely off the ground as they demand an end to air strikes against rebel-held areas and other humanitarian measures, risking efforts to end five years of civil war.

The High Negotiations Committee, the main opposition group, wants a halt to what it describes as a "massive acceleration" of bombings by Russia and President Bashar al-Assad’smilitary on civilian areas, spokesman Fara Atassi said in an e-mailed statement on Tuesday. A spokesman for the HNC, Monzer Makhous, said earlier that the grouping would quit the talks by the end of this week if its demands are not met.

WNU Editor: I am not optimistic on these talks. The focus of these talks is on the process .... and even the process is not clearly defined. There is no real negotiation or discussion on a ceasefire, a road-path to peace, political compromises, safe zones, etc..

The US press, on Washington's orders, is mandated to demonize US enemies by personalizing them. Thus we get not the Syria Arab Army, its correct title, but "Assad" as in "Assad opponents" and Assad's offensive. Syria is "Assad."

It's always done this way, with Hitler, Tojo, Hussein, Saddam, Putin etc. But it has to be two syllables, and more or less don't work. So we didn't see Ho for Vietnam, and won't see Xi for China. Iran isn't referred to as Khamenei, nor DPRK as Kim. Fascinating.

The death and destruction is going to keep going for years without letup. It will end in Iraq before Syria, to much hating going on now.

"Syria: 'Negotiations' Over Insurgency's Northern Supply Route Concluded

Good news from Syria. The battlefield 'negotiations' over the insurgency's supply route to the north were successfully concluded.

After nearly four years the siege on Nubl and Zahraa has been lifted. The northern supply route from insurgency held areas in Aleppo province and Aleppo city to Turkey has been severed."
