IBTimes: Turkey’s Erdoğan Slams US Over Envoy’s Visit To Kobani, Asks It To Choose Between Kurdish Forces And Ankara

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan slammed the United States in comments published by local media Sunday and said that Washington should choose between Turkey and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party, or PYD, the Associated Press (AP) reported Monday.

Erdoğan made the comments after U.S. President Barack Obama's envoy Brett McGurk visited the northern Syrian town of Kobani, controlled by the PYD’s military wing Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). Ankara considers PYD a terrorist group because it is affiliated to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which has begun an armed insurgency in Turkey. The PKK is also blacklisted by most of the international community. The YPG, with support from U.S.-led airstrikes, drove back the Islamic State group (ISIS) from the city a year ago, the AP reported.

The political system of Rojava is inspired by democratic confederalism and communalism. It is influenced by anarchist and libertarian principles, and is considered by many a type of libertarian socialism.[67] The Constitution of Rojava has protection for currency, property rights and free trade.[68] The basic unit at the local level is the community which pools resources for education, protection and governance. At a national level communities are unrestricted in deciding their own economic decisions on who they wish to sell to and how resources are allocated. There is a broad push for social reform, gender equality and ecological stabilization in the region.[69]

I like having people in the community be the ones responsible for running it and making decisions that affect it. since i learned of Rojava i thought the idea was a good middle ground between right and left in some ways, small government, the option to work your land for government or not, liberal social agenda (liberal for a middle eastern country), they are muslim so still very conservative, arts and education are emphasized, every one is represented and has a voice. Apart from the PKK connection they are as close to "moderate" as anyone in the region is, but they are not Arab, and no government especially Turkey wants to see them do anything but disappear.

WNU i have never really seen whats happining in Rojava discussed outside the fighting here and always wondered your and other commentors take on if it could work.

that is gonna make things easier for them

Country .... good point. I will make a special post on this in the next day or two. My gut tells me that these Syrian Kurds will be incorporated (one day) in a greater Kurdistan. The old borders are dead, and what will come out of all of these wars will be a new border reflecting the major ethnic groups .... with the Kurds being one of them.

Erdogan has made his decision and gone public. Now he's trying to force others out into the open. Played a certain way he has a strong hand, but he's feeling alone these days and he's trying his best to get "public declarations" of support for his agenda. He will be disappointed.

Turkey was moderate. They even had gay pride parades. It grew for about 3 or 4 years. Haven't heard anything about it in a few years.

I'm sure that any socialism implemented will work as well as it does in Canada. An 18 year old woman with Leukemia lost her battle for life even though a donor was identified. It seems the medical establishment and government paces themselves. Poor woman had 3 months live but was on a 6 month to 9 month wait list.

In America we would have held a benefit or set up a go Fund me page. Under socialism she was an acceptable loss or negligent homicide on part of the government
