The Asahi Shimbun: Photos of nuclear weapons in Okinawa found in U.S. national archives

A U.S. think tank has found photos of nuclear weapons in Okinawa in the 1960s when the island was under U.S. rule.

The National Security Archive (NSA) discovered three photos in the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

“It is probably the first time (that photos of nuclear weapons taken in Okinawa before it was returned to Japan in 1972 were found in archival material),” said Masaaki Gabe, a professor of international political science at the University of the Ryukyus, who is well versed in U.S. archives related to Okinawa.
