U.S. Launches Air Strikes Against Islamic State Targets In Libya

Reuters: U.S. aircraft hit Islamic State militants in Libya, more than 40 dead

U.S. warplanes carried out air strikes against Islamic State-linked militants in western Libya on Friday, killing as many as 40 people in an operation targeting a suspect linked to two deadly attacks last year in neighbouring Tunisia.

It was the second U.S. air strike in three months against Islamic State in Libya, where the hardline Islamist militants have exploited years of chaos following Muammar Gaddafi's 2011 overthrow to build up a presence on the southern shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The mayor of the Libyan city of Sabratha, Hussein al-Thwadi, told Reuters the planes struck at 3:30 a.m. (0130 GMT), hitting a building in the city's Qasr Talil district where foreign workers were living.

He said 41 people had been killed and six wounded. The death toll could not immediately be confirmed with other officials.

So Obama said Going to Libya is off the table.

So why hit them with pin prick raids?

They always say that if you hit them you make them madder.

I mean at some point they are going to hit us no matter what we do. It is their theology.

It seems to me if they despise you as weak, they are more likely to hit you sooner, more often and harder. Pinprick raids seemed guaranteed to do exactly that.

What would Machiavelli say? He would not say it is better to be despised than feared.

If you can't be loved or respected, then being feared is better than being despised.

ISIS despises weaklings.

Whose your man, Putin or Obama?

Of course if forty are dead they are all militants, according to an unnamed source who can't be identified because he's not allowed to comment.

If we killed 100 militants to 1 civilian or 1,000 to 1 and would win the war in 3 months, you, the press and a whole bunch of others would be belly-aching something fierce.

I have relatives on both sides of WW2, who were subjected to aerial bombing of cities and factories and the ratios probably were less than 1 to 1.

All I see in you is a belly acher, who if put in charge would knock the king over or resort to a police state when the criticism got fierce.

Usually, when Kings get knocked over it's because of bellies aching from hunger.

But let them eat cake, eh?

We live in a police state. You in particular live in one where the King was, if not "knocked over"' supplanted because a bunch of land grabbers didn't like the Quebec Act of 1774.

Try driving in blackface if you don't believe me, but, then again, Obama's been driving the country in blackface and no one has arrested him yet.

Try it anyway.
