Is Donald Trump Right About Defense Spending?

Matthew Gault, Reuters: Donald Trump is right about defense spending – and that should scare you

Donald Trump could be the only presidential candidate talking sense about for the American military’s budget. That should scare everyone.

“I’m gonna build a military that’s gonna be much stronger than it is right now,” the real- estate-mogul-turned-tautological-demagogue said on Meet the Press. “It’s gonna be so strong, nobody’s gonna mess with us. But you know what? We can do it for a lot less.”

He’s right.

U.S. military spending is out of control. The Defense Department budget for 2016 is $573 billion. President Barack Obama’s 2017 proposal ups it to $582 billion. By comparison, China spent around $145 billion and Russia around $40 billion in 2015. Moscow would have spent more, but the falling price of oil, sanctions and the ensuing economic crisis stayed its hand.

WNU Editor: Even if Donald Trump is elected President .... and proposes a major re-organization of the Pentagon on how and what it buys .... Congress will ignore him, and it will be done in a bi-partisan manner. But it is going to be fun to watch the debate .... a debate that is long overdue.

Well, the discussion might even revolve around what the US requires to defend the nation, rather than to subdue the world. That would be nice, and quite a cost savings.

China wants to subdue it neighbors. With 5 trillion dollars passing through the SCS, someone must gather the wagons, before it is to late.

A capitalist needs to take on the military intelligence congressional industrial complex. President Trump is the one. His winning campaign has been done with less money and fewer staff.
