Reuters: Syria opposition to go to peace talks, says Assad escalating war

Syria's main opposition group said it would attend peace talks on Monday but accused the government of President Bashar al-Assad of preparing to escalate the war.

The U.N.-brokered talks, which coincide with the fifth anniversary of the conflict, will take place in Geneva two weeks after the start of a ceasefire agreement which has reduced violence although not halted the fighting.

The High Negotiations Committee said it would attend as part of its "commitment to international efforts to stop the spilling of Syrian blood and find a political solution".

But in its statement on Friday it played down any chance of reaching agreement with the Syrian government to end the war that has killed more than 250,000 people and led to a refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe.

War ain't cheap, gives everybody a chance to restock and reload.

Russia has the resources and marterial to throw at it ....but for how long?

Phil,

As long as they want to or need to. That's the answer to your question of "how long." They could end the war tonight if they so desired. To do so probably doesn't suit them. The Russian leadership is having way to much fun and the longer they wait to end it in the favor of their allies the more power they have. As such, why rush? I suspect they are about to get bored with it all very soon.

That's your theory not a fact.

Just because you preach that the russian military is the strongest military force the world has ever seen doesn't make it true.

If that was true they wouldn't be
Negotiating.

You probably havn't noticed, but the Cessation of Hostilities required that the good jihadi headchoppers sign up and give GLONASS coordinates for their positions to the Russians snd the Syrians,

While the bad jihadi headchoppers did not, and are continued to get rolled up,

And the Russian run "Reconciliation Teams" have managed in a bit more than two weeks, have turned 27 Free Syrian Army Jihadi Headchoopers into Syraian Arab Army levies, ( conscripts). They get to redeem their past sins by fighting and dying against ISIS and al Nusra as cannon fodder.

It's very Shia, Alwalite, and at the same time, Christian. Must readdy pick their Whabbist asses.
