Is Donald Trump's Antiwar Message Resonating With 'White America'?

J.D. Vance, New York Times: Why Trump’s Antiwar Message Resonates with White America

MY grandma — we called her Mamaw — loved her country. Born in eastern Kentucky coal country at the beginning of the Great Depression, she credited so much of the good in her life to America’s bounty. When I interviewed her about her life for a school project, she spent most of the time talking about World War II: her dad’s love letters from the Pacific; how her younger brother lied about his age in an effort to enlist. “We did it,” she told me, still beaming with pride more than a half-century later. “We freed the whole world from tyranny.”

Mamaw said something else entirely when, just a few weeks after America invaded Iraq, I told her that I had enlisted in the Marine Corps. “You’re a grade-A idiot,” she shouted, and though her anger stemmed in part from worry, I knew that she saw the conflict as the indulgence of an elite president who knew nothing of sacrifice. She liked George W. Bush’s folksy demeanor and admired his Christian faith, but as the war dragged on, her criticisms grew increasingly personal.

WNU Editor: Donald Trump's message does not only appeal to "White America", but to other groups as the New York Times themselves have revealed in other posts .... Donald Trump’s Tampa Office Is an Unlikely Melting Pot (New York Times). But J.D. Vance is right that the Republican Party needed to have a discussion on the failures of the Iraq and Afghan wars .... and their failure to do so has propelled someone like Donald Trump to the top of the ticket. But Donald Trump's antiwar message is not his number one issue .... his opposition to "open borders" and international trade deals are two issues that has given him a lot of support .... much to the regret of the Republican leadership and their now defeated candidates. As to whether or not this will be enough to propel Donald Trump to the Republican Presidential nomination .... and then to the White House .... I do not know. But I do know that the discussion has shifted, and if it is not addressed now, it will be addressed in the future by another candidate or politician.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say Mr. Trump is "anti-war." For the most part, America's anti-war activists instinctively take the side of any Ametican enemy no matter how repulsive such an enemy may be. Just to cite a few examples Mr. Trump has done the following. 1.) Stated he's willing to consider a first use of nuclear weapons, 2.)advocated a "get tough" approach in trade negotiations with China, 3.)indicated a willingness to consider war with China, 4.)indicated a need to uograde America's mi,itary capabilities including the nuclear arsenal even correctly pointing out the US military is currently in terrible shape, 5.)suggested the possibility that South Korea and Japan might want to consider developing nuclear waepons, 6.)has advocated a get tough approach with Mexico even daring to suggest a wall be built to halt the invasion of a hostile force from the south, 7.)not partucipating in a presidential debate in Iowa in order to hold a fundraiser for wounded veterans knowing that doing this would cost him the race in Iowa and those delegates which it did, 8.) I could go on.

Very respectfully American anti-war activists do none of these things. In fact, they do the opposite. Furthermore the American anti-war movement, activists, and supporters hold important positions within the US government bureaucracy, the courts, the news media, and lead r rship positions in America's biggest corporations. Mr. Trump's supporters do not.

Mr. Trump has dared to bring to the attention of America's elites the fact that a continuation of the nation's current policies is sucidal, he's dared to point out to oarasites like NATO, Japan, and South Korea among others that tbe United States may no longer be their b!tch boy, and has pointed out to China, Mexico, and others that perhaps we may not be willing to allow tbe gang rape to continue.

For daring to do this, many are gunning for his destruction. Furthermore perhaps he's done the worst thing of all in daring to offer Americans some hope that perhaps their position and America's can be improved in the world. For this many among both "friend" and foe of America are in agreement albiet for different reasons that Donald Trump must be destroyed.

Not sure how anti war Trump is but if that Clinton thing wins the reality show, I'm sure we will see more and bigger as it shows the size of it's balls.
